Gonna miss the long front end of the Vette
I love the view of the C7 from the driver's wheel of the long sloping front end-with the mid engine short front end- gonna be like a bus's view if the spy shots are correct. Yick to that out of proportion back end. Not liking the C8 so far. Hope I am wrong. Throw in no manual trans and I will be holding onto my C7 stick forever.

I also like the view over the hood of the C7. I think I will get over it very quickly when I look in the side view mirrors and see those side scoops and when I think of an 800 horsepower, twin turbo V8 behind me in the second year mid engine.

there is only one solution to this problem; a 3 sum, including the driver and 2 cars. pick up a used c7 of your choice at a killer deal and wait a few years and pick up another killer deal on a used c8. or if money is no issue, buy all you want when you want. a brand new c7 and c8 combined will still be cheaper than 1 model of ALL of their competitors! make america great again. wait, in corvette land it was until the 70s and started to get back to it again in the 80s and has been ever since. it's just getting greater by leaps and bounds at this particular time.
a really nice c7 is second place???? punish me more.
a lot of people are spoiled rotten, and anyone who can afford even 1 of these cars can NOT complain and get an ear from me.

Yeah, looks like the cockpit view of the fender bulge is gone. Been the same for decades. C8 will be functionally better but.....Oh well. Onward and upward! Now I can order my C8 as a 1LT and I won't need to bug Elmer over and over when installing the damn NavTool front view camera. Won't need it for the shorty front end.

I like the view in my C6 for sure -- but I also really like the view in my wife's almost no front-end MINI Cooper S, and I enjoyed the feeling of the road being right there in an old, tiny, mid-engined car back in the day.
If the car is good, then the view will be good -- just different...

I like to compare the long hood/short deck to a sailboat. Most sailboats have the cockpit at the rear of the boat. This is very useful in steering the boat as you can line up the length of the boat or point the boat towards your next mark. Some cruising sailboats have a center, or mid-ship, cockpit. On these you loose that length to point the boat.
I have never driven a mid engine car so was wondering if a mid engine configuration would make the car harder to steer since you loose the pointing ability that a long hood provides.

Having owned rear mid engine cars the view out the front is awesome.
try not to hate what you havent experienced yet.
placing the front end through corners is much easier and the tight turn in a joy to behold.

You must be planning on modifying your Corvette.

I have to agree that the proportions and shape of the car, especially the front end, are what define a Corvette IMHO. I will miss it. The view from the drivers seat of the C7 is the best since the C3. Loved the curvy fenders on that gen. However, I am still hopeful for the next generation, as I have been for every one since the C3 to C4 change which is a long as I can remember. As long as they retain enough styling queues to make it look like a Corvette, I will be on board, even if it takes a little time for me to fully warm up to it. If the performance is significantly better than the C7 and on par with near peers, it will be easier for me to jump on board. Still, I can't help but feel that some heritage is being lost. But, such is the price of advancement. Nevertheless, I am hopeful as I have been with each new gen and they have not let me down yet.

Yes, I agree, You feel more as part of the car being closer to the center. I prefer it to front engine.

The second year of the mid engine is likely to bring the Z06 variant, as it has with the C6 and C7. From what we have learned and from what I have learned from independent sources, the second year mid engine may well be a twin turbo charged V8 with 800 horsepower. We shall see.

I’m hoping we won’t need to be stomping it everywhere to have any fun. That’s a Porsche problem and a reason I skipped them when I was shopping for the Vette.

One of the first exercises they do at Spring Mountain is a serpentine course--looping back and forth around cones while trying come as close to the turn in cone as possible. One run they have you do it with one of those parking sun shields over the windshield so that you get use to the idea of always looking out one of the side windows to plan your approach. You want to break the habit of looking forward all the time or always looking straight where the car is currently going. You "point" with your eyes and that means looking where you want to go. Very often when turning that isn't even looking forward.

Any opinion on how a lower displacement, lower torque V8 with TT and more peak HP will compare to the lower HOA but higher displacement and higher torque of the current Z06?

I'd rather have better visibility out the front of the car with the ME design.
