not real specific but it turned in under 7 minutes.

I stop the second timer. I look again. It’s not a lap record, it’s not even close. And it’s certainly not the first American supercar to go under seven minutes. That’s all I really need to know. It’s all anybody needs to know.
In fact, the lap time is so far off a new lap record that if I were to write it down I’d probably incur a couple of half-hearted internet forum death-threats, a dozen or so flame-threads and at least a hundred insults.

So the base, entry level ME goes under 7 minutes, and the author thinks that's unremarkable?

Come on..... let's get real! This was nothing more than a 'photo opportunity'. Sure they may have been doing some chassis and software tweaking, but this had nothing to do with establishing any ME performance benchmarks. I would speculate that it will be many months (more likely a year or more from now) before the team sets out with their in house 'hot shoe' and a pre-production Z06 ME to post some real times.
Who knows, they may even follow the Ferrari path and stick to their own 'in house' track for benchmarking.... The 'ring' has a lot of history but I don't think it has the same value it had in years past.

Watching the video, it does not look like the C8 was being pushed to the max, but the tires sounded like they were working HARD!

Pretty good read. I think he was saying that it didn't go under 7 minutes which would have been a first for an American car.

Honestly I believe it, remember the gt3 RS that broke the sub 7 mark just a couple months ago? That car has 520 hp. If Chevy made the car lightweight and gave it grippy tires it's very possible
Just imagine , GM goes out and releases the car for 70k, and announces the time to be as fast around the track compared to a 200k Porsche. That's huge marketing opportunity.

So it needs to beat the Lamborghini Aventador lap times to be worthwhile?

The way the quote is worded makes it sounds like he thinks a sub 7min lap time sucks. It doesn't suck at all. That's a great time, especially if this was an entry level C8.

Everyone, he is saying that this is NOT the first American car to go under 7 mins. In fact, he is downplaying the time he recorded because it probably wasn't super impressive which is why he compared it to the response he got for the ZR1's time. He then goes on to say that who knows how well the car will perform once everything is sorted out.

I gather the same thought from the article. It DID NOT go under 7 mins, that is why it was not worth mentioning the time because CF would eat him alive for the more than likely over 7 min time.

Just to get baseline...
The STD C7 z51 is probably only good for 7:33 or so.. a 7:15 would be great ... But this is still a test vehicle...gotta get data ..
