C8 Vertical doors...

Yes, they open more and into the roof. I have the 570GT. No complaints about the car nor the doors --- just don't find them as convenient as conventional doors. Then again, with the carbon tub, not sure how they would have designed conventional doors.

A lot of people seem to be very positive it won't happen...
I'm becoming so confident from my sources... that I might be willing to place a fun wager on this soon with anyone who wants to take the opposite stance.
I believe it is going to be an option that can be elected, might not be first year 2020 models, but by year 2022 for sure.

I too am not so sure C8 will have vertical doors.
Additional crash testing, Benz SLS I think use little explosives to "blow" the hinges in a roll over,
Vert vs Coupe additional design costs.
But a seat that swivels like a 1970s Monte Carlos..."that's the ticket" for Vette demographics...haha.

Not a fan of vertical doors. If the C8 has vertical doors, I’m out.

Vertical doors are just a gimmick. It puts extra stress on the hinges. IMO they have no practical or aesthetic value.

Gullwing/vertical doors - C8?!
That would ensure that I'd never own one ever!

Gawd! I hope they skip the Lambo Doors. On the bright side, there's nothing in any of the as-yet-released photos to indicate they will open vertically. Not sure how one would infer that from nothing.

A lot of people seem to be unaware that corvettes are not crash tested by the govt.
the rarer a production vehicle, the less odds the govt cares to test it.
a vertical door vette option, would be the lowest production numbers of any recent corvette chasis style. GM have no tests that they need to pass.

Don’t hate me but, vertical doors on a beautiful new, mid engine corvette sounds SWEEEEEET 👍🏽 Lol

LMAO. What? How in the world would a pneumatic assisted vertical or dihedral door have any more stress on the hinges than a standard door? The pneumatic assist takes a large amount of weight/stress off of the hinges. Standard hinges do not benefit from any such assistance. McLaren doors are dihedral and seem to function better and are more practical than the Lamborghini's vertical doors. You're fooling yourself if you think it would hurt C8 sales to use them. The few naysayers on this thread would be trampled under by the throngs of folks trying to hand over their money. Done properly by the factory they would look amazing.

Hey take a look at my vertical doors on my C7 AND I have a good friend up in GM that says the C8 may have vertical doors. They also told me the company that will build.

oh god... can you just imagine... 100k with vert doors... Jesus..... now thats special... lol... if the Vette is <100k. I'm way out. .. it won't be what it could be... and definitely don't want a zr1 of a car that is less than 100k... waste of money and the depreciation would be horrible...

Roxy Roxy... where do you get these wild ideas? Can't you see there is an entire forum that KNOWS you are wrong?!
Pretty bad when a chic who owns a 2019 zr1, knows more about the cars than most everyone here
I think she knows someone who knows someone, and I think she will be the first person who predicted it on this forum and explained the door handle is that triangle, and you lift on it.

There are a few photos of the ME that show the rear of the door slightly elevated when completely opened. That indicates a swan style door like Aston Martin where the vertical hinge pin centerline axis is not plumb or at 90 degrees to a level road surface. Just a few degrees off of vertical will swing the door up so as not to hit a curb. This makes total sense and shouldn't cost much more to the car's budget.

This thread brings up an interesting point. No, there won't be any vertical doors. But my reasoning is from a very practical standpoint. We like to think of the Corvette as an exotic car. It's not, it's a budget build. The entire concept that Corvette was built on is high performance to match very expensive exotic cars, at an affordable price. Vertical doors won't be on the C8 because they add cost but do nothing for performance. In fact, due to additional weight, they're negative for performance so they won't be appearing on any high performance Corvette either.
EDIT: But, I'll give Roxy credit. If (and that's a big IF) there's a Cadillac version of the ME car, then yes, I could see vertical doors and other additions that do nothing for performance, but give the pure exotic feel added to the car.
