No Detroit C8

No Detroit C8
I have been told by a close friend who is a GM engineer the C8 debut will be at the New York Auto Show not Detroit. The NY Auto show is usually the end of March through the 2nd week of April. This tells me that allocations should start some time in June I expect deliveries to start around August of 2019 for the 2020 C8.

Then why are they saying the Bowling Green Assembly will be reopened in January '19 for Tours???

good point. It’s not like GM to debut a BRAND NEW corvette not in Detroit. They do sub models at other locations, but when it comes down to a new gen; it’s always been in Detroit.

Detroit is the primary [as of next year yet, until it moves time wise] show in US. N.Y. and LA are considered secondary shows.
Generally most major products, i.e. C8 have been unveiled in Primary shows.

The NY Auto Show has more of an international flavor. Might be the reason if they are hoping to have significant sales overseas.

That is way, way old info about BG tours resuming in January. No longer relevant.

The 9 month wait for the C7,from the reveal in January 2013 till October delivery was agonizing.
It would probably help their sales as well, clients could pull the trigger sooner and get delivery within 3 to 4 months.
I think the car is going to be hot,out of the gate...
Don’t see potential clients saying.. ‘Could I?or ’Should I?....
but more...’Gimme right now!’
but more

Chicago is the biggest/oldest continues auto show in the u.s.a. [yes Detroit started in 1899 but stopped for 2-3 years in the 30's,,,,but Chicago started in 1900 and has run in every year since]
but the big 3 like to show-off a lot of prototype/new cars in Detroit because its in their backyard, less transport of million dollar cars, and the exec's can/will all be there
heck Ferrari showed the ''testarossa'' in 83-84' in Chicago for the first time, and it was the hand-built prototype worth $5mill+[as per the us Ferrari rep]

This is a good move by GM. With no intro at NAIAS, they'll be able to move more old C7 inventory.
Since deliveries won't start until late August / early September, it will be a shorter wait for C8 buyers between reveal and delivery.

I see no good reason to debut the C8 in NY, unless it can't be ready by Detroit/January, or the normal production won't begin until later.
Customers who are/want the "more international flavor" of the ME will STILL go to shows in NY or LA if there are new ME Corvettes there. It won't matter to them if it debuts in Detroit, a few months earlier. Just because you aren't at the Detroit debut doesn't mean you won't go see the most-talked about, new Corvette when it comes to NY or LA, imo.

Where the unveiling happens is dictated by the time. For the fall availability a later unveiling makes perfect sense. I also heard from my dealer that it will be in New York.

Good- need a more international city to debut the C8 in, and "Detroit" does not fit the bill for such an epic release.

The unveiling is all about press/PR, not what potential customers get to see it in person. I presume there will be much more international press/media at the NY auto show compared to Detroit, so from a media standpoint the reveal will probably get more international coverage.
People buy cars, not PR. And buyers don't need PR to find out about a car today. So, if they want to go to a car show, they will. If not, they'll just buy it sight unseen. Do you know any new Corvette buyers who don't see the car, don't go to the Bash, and order BEFORE prices are set in late May, June, or whenever (sometimes a little later even)?
