From CJ Post #260: “What Chazcron did with this looks good. But instead of the headlights, I want to focus on what he displayed as the rear hatch. His dropping the hatch cover glass just below both the yellow hatch edges gives a hint of a C3 without the vertical rear window. I’m not liking what has been seen with the latest Camo pic of the hatch for the ME Coupe. It just looks fake to me, overdone, and if it is that way a glass particon will still be necessary to separate the engine bay away from the cabin. To me the Chevy ARIA Concept looks great but probably overdone for the ME. More probable similar to the C3 to show the engine. But who knows? ”

The issues I have above led me to rethink what I see. Maybe that hatch is real but is just not mounted right in that picture as a decoy. It could in reality lay horizontal as part of a complete C3 Type hatch. Thus vertical window, engine view, and heat extraction. What I like best about the Aria Concept hatch is it displays Corvette Heritage using a reversed black Stinger in the middle. That would look great. It’s fun to speculate when I cost you nothing but typing time.

Damn, the car looks great in silver. Very, very nicely done Chazcron! Thank you.

^^. I get what your thoughts are for the scoop but what are you trying to suggest for that hood/ nose area you painted in?

Yeah, I'm guessing that's 90+% it, and I hope/think it will be much better in person. I wasn't crazy about what were ultimately proven to be the dead-ringer renders of the C7 either. However, I love the C7 design now.

I was just amusing myself by lengthening the hood and lowering the nose. Check the headlight position. It's also a little bit of wishful thinking. The scoop begins in the valley of the Coke Bottle where it has to.

You could almost stop right there with a simple egg-crate, and I'd be happy with the nose.

Wicked,

Yes, those hood strakes are all about channeling air around the windshield to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Because the cammo scoop is fake and built up. The big ridge on the lower doors is wrong and also fake and bult up on the cammo cars.

I have a CFD add on in my CAD program. I can represent the pressure of the air, the velocity and the surface pressure individually or simultaneously. This NASCAR surface pressure file shows red as high pressure and blue as low. The colors are is reversed if you show velocity above the boundary layer. Air flow will follow the path of least resistance and that channel conforms to that flow. Those ridges would actually increase drag because the air finds its own way in the most efficient way. Also there is migration in yaw conditions which will further increase drag over those ridges. I think those ridges are cardboard things under the camo material to hide the actual shape of the hood. As you can see the pressure drops off drastically with velocity increase as it goes over the fender and down the side. Thus making side intakes very inefficient. LaFerrari side intakes are fed from the front of the car. All kinds of tricks are required to modify airflow into those intakes otherwise.

See separation down the side without the Coke Bottle effect.

Coke Bottle effect in front of rear wheels

See the higher pressure area in front of the rear wheel.

Modern LMP airflow management.

Airflow with obstacles and guidance features. Scoop intake must be at the Coke Bottle curve (orange). Ridges cause separation.

Love the high mounted exhaust in post 262. I'd give it a 0% chance it makes into production.

reminds me of the Chrysler Crossfire with all those lines in the hood. Also, I just don't see that triangle piece sticking off the door being permanent, if it is those will be some ugly doors. My best guess is the actual scoop starts behind the door. While Chazcron has done awesome work here, the car itself (in camo) looks very plain & about a decade behind other mid-engine designs, just my opinion.

Default Grille insert

This Grille insert kicked my tail. It was way too labor intensive. I lost my progress as I was finishing and had to redo it. I'm not even sure I like it. It is too late for a different angle or color.
