chazcron's 3D model work in progress

Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. Eyewitnesses say it is not "rounded like it "appears" to be in the pic above.
I for one don't think the rounded shape goes with the angular sharp edged design cues seen on the rest of the car. I think we "could" be looking at the shape as seen in the CAD image without the cover on it.
Could be wrong.
Maybe the execution of the scoop is done in a way that is very pleasing. People that have seen it say it is "unique" among midengine cars and very attractive.
I can't wait to see what they have done. ! ; )

FVS, I would like the side details to look like how I imagine them but in reality I am truly in the dark. A lot of recent GM designs are tasteful but a few are terribly cheesy. I believe the odds are 50/50 that I will like the final product where if it were Ferrari the odds would jump to 80/20 in favor of a tastefully beautiful design. Thanks for your efforts.

I can understand your concerns. Some design leave much to be desired. I too am hoping the team did a great job with the styling of this car. We shall see soon... I hope!

"Tact" is subjective. Ad hominem attack is not.
Unless it's name calling and abuse, it's fair game. Countless times--in this forum and other places--"directness" is often mistakenly called "tactless."
Take the comments at face value and move on.

That is a breathtaking looking car. Might have to reconsider black (my first Corvette was one, but none since). Thank you very much Chazcron!

Hey Chazcron, I may have missed it somewhere in the 84 dozen C8 threads but.... what makes you think the side air intake will have a black leading edge?
Can you post the same render of the black one above but in white (Arctic White) without that black side scoop? Can you make the air scoop white as well? It's hard to get an idea on the black car because lighting is different on the black.
And this is no ding on you but damn, them C8 wheels are f'king HIDEOUS.

Shaka’s concept sketches strike a chord in me with his door/ scoop intersection. All supposed insiders describe the C8 as having a C3 vibe and his bottom sketch captures that too.

I'm doing another round of checking proportions against hi-res spy photos (thank you Keith and Elegant) I made the rear window 20% longer. Again, no panel lines added in post (it's late) and very little touch-up. Love them, hate them, or just agonize about the things I am supposed to be aware of and refuse to address. (ok, I admit, the chrome window surround was an accident, but I thought it was a little classy at first) You could even... gasp... marvel at the things I most likely got right. Again, I'll change my scoop headlights and taillights when someone posts a decent leak. I'm probably going to model the huge wipers and may try to actually carve the hood and door creases like I did with the top of the rear deck. (the only modeled panel line I've cut so far) SInce it is mostly finished, I will probably render test pix and post them more often, as you might have noticed.
Nice in white with actual color bouncing around. Unfortunately I didn't give my light bars enough sampling to illuminate the surroundings without extreme pixellation.
Two versions of a wider angle distortion.
More crisp, but reflection shapes are distracting.
The reasons for my scoop's leading edge being black are these:
My first thought was, the leading edge is fake cardboard to throw us off (evidenced in my first renders.) Then I saw the image with the door open and the drop down winglet right where the leading edge was. If the leading edge was fake, the remaining top of scoop on the body would be too almost too small for a door handle and most certainly not hidden. Also, if fake, you'd have a hard and awkward time reaching the real door handle. That's how I came to the conclusion it is real. I assume it would be prohibitively expensive to stamp the shape as one piece. Ferrari can afford to do that, GM can not.
Some of the hi-res photos showed the seams running under the camo, giving me a pretty good estimate of where it "leads" to. I extrapolated using the idea that shapes repeat.
Why do I have it further back from the door edge? Two things, one, if it is where it shows now, directly beginning at the door edge, I'd think there'd be a good chance of finger pinch. Two, the spy photos show the fake extension wobbling in both directions, in and out.
Why black and not body color? I think the lower end models could be body colored. But ask yourself, why make a distinct different shape and make it body color? The upper end models would naturally lend themselves to carbon fiber. Further, the rear window surround will likely be black, not body color, to make the tiny rear window appear bigger, the exhaust fairing is black as is the front grille is likely to be. It just makes sense to me to have a dash of black along the side too. Is my shape right? Most likely not. But it satisfies my design sense. I trust that the GM designers have a far better eye than me. That especially goes for my trainwreck of my inner headlight design.
I've spent a lot of time spinning this car around in 3D, probably more than anyone outside of GM. Once you get the ingrained image of the long-hooded traditional Corvette out of you head, I truly feel its design honors the look and feel of the storied Corvette heritage. It is a worthy successor and an outstanding addition to the Corvette line. My model and renders will pale in comparison to seeing it in the flesh. They always do.
Some of ya'll will still gripe (leading to usually heated but honest discussion, not always on topic, either) but I've got thick skin. I'll still tweak, render, and post.

I really appreciate all your efforts and talent chazcron! These latest renderings are awesome! I especially like the ones in white (but I'm a biased ).
Keep doing what you're doing!!

Wonderful work Chaz. I’m sure you’re matching profiles from best available photos. But i just can’t imagine what is driving the need for all that volume from the B pillar aft. This drives the wedge angle (tip of nose to top of deck lid/spoiler) to be or appear much greater than the 488. This wedge angle compared to the 488 drives the large surface above the rear wheels and creates the tall deck lid to ground distance. Aerodynamically that large butt baffles me unless it’s a disguise. I’d love a comparison of nose tip to deck lid wedge angles between the C8 and 488 to see if all that aft volume is an illusion or real. Thanks so much for the time spent. I’m sure the C8 design team are enjoying this guess work more than anyone. Thx
Well... tried to upload 488 image and won’t let me right now.

How ironic. Shaka, what image do you think I used as reference for eight hours yesterday? I roughly lined up my model with this image as a rotoscope. That’s how I came up with the realization I need a 20% more length on the window. Getting the focal length of the camera and the distance from the car proves to be very difficult. And even when you’re pretty close, you can still get the proportions wrong. I’ll post a screencap GIF of what I tried last night, But I’m pretty sure nothing I can show you will satisfy you. And if, as you claim, you’ve given up all hope, does that mean your rants in this thread will cease?

Chazcrom:
You are having fun with your renders (and as you said, they were YOURS), as a result we are having fun. Keep it up.
I hope you are keeping a log of each render so you can pick out the closest when the C8 is revealed.

I agree, hundreds are along for the ride with you at the helm...I understand the critical voices can motivate you to improve as the need arises. Just know the silent passengers exist and are watching every update! I appreciate the effort to satisfy others needs by doing the different colors, silver has been my fav, but the black was very sharp. Thanks for all the effort!
