"Wide Body" C8?
Without the C6 Grand Sport release, I probably never would have bought my first Corvette. I loved the wide body styling of the C6 Z06 but it was always out of my price range. Enter the C6 GS and I was able to order an '11 GS with MT, Chrome wheels, NPP, at around $50k. I got the body style I wanted and it didn't break my bank.
Now enter the C8. I wonder if they'll produce the same narrow/wide styles for the ME design? If they do release something like a Grand Sport for the C8 ME, I wonder if they'll wait until 2021, 2022, etc..
I guess time will tell....

GM built wide body C4's, C6's, C7's. I predict they will build wide body C8's as well. Once I see the wide body versions I fall out of love with the look of the base car.

They for sure will!!!
In my opinion base models looks plain once they come out with a GS or Z version... The wide body, ground effect, etc... makes a world of difference in my opinion. Just look at the challenge Ferraris vs the base!!
Any idea as to the proposed base price of the base model when they release it?

Not everyone prefers wide bodies. I’ve owned six Corvettes and I’ve never owned a wide body. I prefer the svelt body width.

Which is why GM has so many different offering and versions of Vette's.... Different strokes for different folks as they say!

Agree, but it varies from gen to gen and person to person. For the C6, I preferred the wide-body, but in the C7 design I prefer narrow, which is a cleaner, less "dirty" look. I'm not a big fan of ground effects and side skirts.

Depends upon if the wide body is integrated into the body or are nothing more than bolt/screwed on panels. No bolt on fender flares but wider fenders would be okay.

Just my opinion ... YMMV

I don't think there will be need for a wide body as the base C8 will likely come with 305's in the rear and 335's are only about 1" wider. I think they can stuff that under the base body for those that need it. Considering that the McLaren 720S that makes over 700HP runs "only" 305's, the need for wider rubber isn't really there.
I think dreamr616 has the right idea in that, the differentiators will be powerplants and aero, perhaps different front and rear fascia's, but in the end I think the "wide-body" Corvette will die with the C7. Of course aftermarket shops will likely butcher the car for the right price.

In another thread we had discussed this possibility. After doing some comparisons, it was noted that most him he specs we’re close to the same width as the Corvette C7 Z06 and GS ... within half an inch.
I would think that the base c8 ME will be at least this width meaning the same width as the current C7 z06/GS.
as we stated above, the rubber seems to be about the same so extra body width is not necessarily necessary!
I think it is possible that along with different powertrains we may see slightly different body panels with different aero and ground effects similar to the way the GTB is differentiated from the Pista.

The whole point of the wide body is to stuff the big tires under it, the way the c8 looks, how much wider can it go, if this car comes out with 335 rear tires, I doubt there will be a wide body.

I believe that, for the most part, this is true. Most other manufacturers, besides GM, create specialized versions of their cars, i.e. challenge, etc., that are track oriented and may use wider tires and wheels.
Conversely, GM supplies wider tires on some models and covers the wider tires with wider bodywork. However, these wider tires are not really appropriate for normal driving conditions and are therefore not the standard sizes. Specifically, the wide tires used on a Z06 are really too wide for rainy conditions and are too prone to hydroplaning. This can be countered by selecting the "weather mode".
Like all manufacturers, GM's base specifications include tire sizes that are appropriate and safe for all driving conditions. However, GM does provide the ability to order "summer performance" tire and wheel options (with the required wider bodywork to cover the additional width).

I owned a '95 ZR-1 which had a wider body from the A-pillar back (different doors, rear fenders and rear bumper. It had 315 rear tires. Boy, I miss that car (even though it doesn't measure up to the C6 ZR1.
