Default ME Cadillac

Is the ME also going to be a Cadillac? I am hearing very disturbing news that Cadillac is also going to be building the ME car. So is the C8 going to be a Corvetillac? GM is scaring me, what are they doing to the CORVETTE.

Why is that very disturbing? A ME high performance version (Chevrolet) and a ME luxury version (Cadillac). It's good to have choices.

That's been my theory from day one. You don't invest half a billion $'s to paint 75,000.00 Chevrolets.
Time will tell but remember you heard it here first.

Doesn't offend me....reminds me of the (Lambo) Gallardo and the (Audi) R8.

It will be disturbing if it's almost the same car. That is a lot of R&D money for I new ME version I don't think GM can afford to versions we will see. I am hoping the C8 to be the best Corvette of all time don't want to share it with Cadillac. Just my opinion.

They built a Corvette based Cadillac once before at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant called the XLR. It used the C6 platform, but almost everything else was different. They didn't sell well for the 70k+ base price and were discontinued in 2009.With the BGA plant expansion, the new Cadillac V8 DOHC Twin Turbo and the key Fob being shown on the internet...a good possibility.

The XLR was a Mercedes killer when it was built and the guys from the Fatherland quickly upped the ante and improved the S-class coupe. A C8 version Caddy will compete well today, IMHO. I hope GM does pull it off.

I think both variants would be good. Make the Caddy the luxury version and make the Corvette the drivers car.

As “DS” noted two posts above, the ME Cadillac will not begin to even fractionally address Cadillac’s issues, i.e., on average the XLF sold 1,650 units/year, best year about twice that.

I do not expect a Cadillac ME sports car until 2022 or 2023 and then only as the all electric, luxury version of the platform, becoming a Cadillac eRay.

Actually the XLR used a C5 platform/chassis with Cadillac engines.

True...the XLR's were built on the C5 platform with the Cadillac Northstar V8. They first appeared in 2003 as an '04 model which was a year before the C6 debut.

It's not just any Chevrolet, it's GM's Halo car!

Ya time will tell if they throw Cadillac a bone and its own ME. Although I am fairly certain it will be a very weak seller and discontinued after a few years! Cadillac can't even sell sedans so what's a ME Sports car going to do for it? They would probably be out of business if it wasn't for the Escallade and their other SUV's.

Cadillac has the twin turbo V8 already developed...they could basically have a mid-engined car at a fraction of the price of development, and why not share the cost. If Cadillac were to brand it, it would likely be low volume sales but they can do it if Corvette is building them. Cadillac has a strong presence in IMSA, so I think it was always a natural progression.

I personally thought Cadillac would target the i8 crowd by doing a more techie/lux interior, while also possibly deploying the hybrid variant first.

ME Cadillac, sure hope so. The days of the Camaro vs Firebird are sorely missed by this car junkie, so great to have two quite different styling choices on the same platform. In my opinion the Firebird always looked better than the Camaro, I'll bet it will be the same for the Caddy.

This looks way better than anything I'm seeing in the renders here. Personally lusted after one of these when it seemed to be on the table. Sadly Cadillac has moved away from this angular styling

You are correct, they were based off a variant of the C5 chassis and many of the technical advancements of the C6 were reared on the XLR first, ie the Magnetic Ride Control, navigation system and adaptive cruise control. All new advancements at the time. When the XLR’s were built there were no options except satellite radio in the ‘04 and ‘05 models and became standard from ‘06 on. It was basically a loaded car with all the options. The V models started in ‘06 with a supercharged North Star. The price point of the vehicle and Cadillacs lack of marketing, along with GM looming bankruptcy in 2008 doomed the XLR.

I owned a base in 2004 and a 2006 V model for 12 years. Two of the best cars I’ve owned. I traded the V for my Z06 and would still have it, if parts weren’t becoming scarce. I also own a CTS-V Coupe and consider it one of the best vehicle Cadillac made. Like the Corvette, best vehicle for the money!

No one will buy the Caddy version of it as a coupe/2seater. MB is cancelling the S class coupe even, no market for it. What is this going to compete with? The SL, the Jag F type, Aston Martin, Bentley GT? None of those sell in sufficient numbers to justify a competitor.

I always had the perception of Caddy buyers being older rich men, interested in a status symbol not a sport car?? Does not make sense to ME pun intended.
