Default New Patent The Mid-Engine Corvette's Hatch Has a Unique Design to Aid Cooling

Chevrolet's patent application for the new supercar's engine cover is worth analyzing.

I like the attention to details! Heat exchanger for the engine cover.

I can absolutely see the C8 having a visible engine under that glass AND some type of storage at the rear. The spy photo at the Ring shows the entire rear hatch opening, similar to a Ferrari F50. Maybe they’ve included a trunk to access similar to the old and new NSX, and the entire piece lifts to reveal all, while the storage would be sealed off from the engine bay, which vents through the special hatch. This along with behind the seat storage and a frunk would give the owner the best of all worlds.

Not sure if I'd want someone who's under the influence taking advantage of the keys to one of these.

I'm assuming you meant "trunk" instead of drunk.

Assume there's no way to do a general search for Corvette Patents, right?

Strategic leaking of info, to keep everyone interested until the official release.

1. This proves that there will be no storage compartment above the engine bay.
2. The taillights are just placeholders or for demonstration, as they do not show the design of a specific car or its name in a patent. The C7 body was used in the active aero patent, yet Corvette was never mentioned and the C7 never came with Active Aero. Look at FVS or Chazcron’s renderings for a good idea of the taillights.
3. Credit to the forum member who stated that this car would be full of magnesium. I believe it was Shaka, but I’m not completely sure. The patent states that the mesh is made with magnesium “for at least some configurations”. I’m willing to bet that all C8’s will have a magnesium rear hatch. That’s a cheap and effective way to lower the CG and make the panel easier to lift. Lighter panels can have lighter hydraulics to hold them open, too.

If they put this much effort into a rear hatch, this car must be leagues above the C7 Stingray.

No matter what it looks like, the new Vette will be an engineering and packaging marvel. Just like her older sisters.
