Or they could do a short run of 2020 C7s to fill the gap to a 2021 C8. They recently did that with the 2017 model year.

Logically, I'd agree that GM would rather have a short run than a non-'83 model year again.
But, this past short run with the C7 just seemed to be a weird year. Of course, that was coupled with a plant shutdown, a very large expansion/construction, a no-tours of BGA for X months, etc. If you ask me, it'll be a GM plan but with dealer input.because I think dealers were a little questioning of how to "position" (aka sell) a short-run of new Corvettes. On the flipside, stretching out a generation like the C7 for an added year is something that's been done before, the '67, the '96 are examples and they were full runs.
