Yet the first Corvettes did not have V8s.

IT can be based on the 4.2 TT, but it won't be the same, as forced induction requires 4.0 liters and under. My guess is a 3.8-4.0 8-cyl TT, based on a larger TT that will be in the street car.

It has been announced that the C7.R is the car for IMSA this coming year. As you noted, it is a lot of testing for a car not running, but I'm not sure that decision was sent in stone until fiairly recently. I've speculated in the past that we will see the C8 in WEC later this year. The new WEC season starts in September and they can homologate for that, run a few races late 2019 and be ready in 2020 for IMSA.

Here's the sound of the 3.9L Ferrari V8 turbo to compare.

Right, which is why I said "derived from," just like the C7R where the engine has to be under 6L.

Even though I like it I'm not sure a car with looks and sounds as aggressive as that will sell in the numbers GM expects even at near C7 MSRP. IMO, Hope I'm wrong but the daily driver appeal that I love about my C7 (Its now tucked in bed for the winter) seems to have vanished..

Several times the rear of the car is illuminated by lights. There’s no plate or numbers on the back of that car. Is that date supposed to be the NY Auto Show?

Any insights?
the C7R will be campaigned for the full 2019 season.
there needs to be a lot of track testing to the car to make it competitive in its first season of racing.
Last thing CORVETTE RACING and GM wants is to have this race car unreliable and not competitve on its frist season of racing...

That's the race car. The $130K C7 ZR1 doesn't sell that many units either and is on schedule for production of only 2K. Like every other generation, the C8 will offer base through high-end models in a very broad price bracket.

I would imagine only for track. I have raced at the night time and we mounted 4 headlights in the front of our car and it still didn't seem like much.

I am 43 and have owned at least one Vette continuously since I was 21. If they made a lightweight V6 version with the V6 that is in the ATS-V I would be all over it.

Just my $0.02. I liked the C6 headlights, I liked the C7 tail lights, but at some point you lose the essence of the car. Some think going ME is "not a Corvette" to begin with. I don't agree there. For me the line is losing the V8. The engine is the "soul" of the car and the sounds is a major factor in the feeling you get driving the car. I like V8 sounds. The car may be very potent, but to me, a ME car with a non V8 just isn't a Corvette. Now clearly the street car will have V8s so I'm all good.

Awww... too bad.... I was hoping it was Trumpian 4D-chess level GM marketing (For the record I like Trump )

I am aware. Maybe they'll call the new motor Blue Flame

I had a student at VIR with a ATS-V with the only mods being a tune and exhaust. Boost was upped, but still on pump gas. It made like 500 at the tire and was very potent. It was great fun... but I just wouldn't want that sound in a "Corvette".

Inherently horrible vibration characteristics vs. cross-plane.

Ok... I'm going to quote myself.

I asked about the tires because what convinced everyone this is the R? Aside from the wing it appears similar to the production versions. Thanks for educating me.
