I'm just the opposite. When I was in my 20's(during the 1960's), I bought a new car every year, sometimes 2 in one year. Always wanted the latest and greatest. Now, in my middle 70's I don't want the hassle of dealing with "issues". I just want to get in my car, start it, and drive off with zero drama.

Like today, It's 24 degrees and I will be driving down to Branson for dinner. The last thing I want is to be on the side of the road, on a Sunday, having to deal with "issues" from an untried new technology in a "all new" car.

I've ordered and taken delivery of low VIN C4, C5, C6, & C7 Corvettes and not had any regrets. I didn't receive the discounts offered later in the model year but didn't experience a price increase either by waiting. I'll plan to do the same with a C8, but the biggest obstacle might be buying one that's not over MSRP. I have not and will not do that.

my Z was a week 3 bulid (late nov 14). Through 4 years of ownership and 16k miles ive had a headlight assembly replaced....thats it. im leaning towards a gen v viper for my next purchase though that decision has nothing to do with any first year jitters.

my Z has been a great car

I had a 1996 coupe I bought new that had no problems. My C5 was ordered about 18 months after they came out. I was waiting for a modest discount.

I bought a 2019 Stingray in August of this year, I will buy a C8 when my C7 is two or three years old. While launch cars are way more reliable than years gone by, I would like a small discount and there will be sure to be some running changes as well.

Yes, but not because of reliability as most on here have expressed in their reasoning.

Usually takes a coupe of years to release the performance models and typically in the first couple of years they bake in the rest of the “good stuff”. Not to mention all the crap on constraint and simply chasing a deal to be the first. GM usually releases just the base vette in year 1/2...sorry not for me.

Look at the recent 911 launch, only CS/C4S released, no manual yet, etc etc

Need to be patient for the desirable stuff.

With the overheating issues I had in my C7 Z06 2015 on travk, I’ll definitely pass on first year C8, and probably first year Z06 too and get the Z second year!

I had the first Lexus IS350 AWD F sport in the DC area, and that didn't go well. Lexus used my car and one in california to beta test their crappy Nav systems. The dealership had my car for almost 30 days in the first year. Never again on first year model runs.

I don't know if I'll be able to get a 1ST year ME. The first year might take 2 years I guess that's good

It's important to remember the C8 will have a new chassis AND a new powertrain, and we know the C7 Z06 was not tested enough before release (overheating problems).
Gotta play the odds...

First year cars usually have more problems, but there are upsides to getting a first year car too. If you buy a first year car new it will usually depreciate slower than later years and they give you more exclusivity. When buying an older used car I usually avoid first year cars, but when buying new there are some pretty good positives that help outweigh the possible negatives.

I had a 2014, VIN 1500, delivered in October of 2013. Not a single problem.

I was a firm believer in avoiding first year cars. But I made an exception and bought a 2014 C7, used in 2016. It's been almost perfect as far a reliability goes. The only failure was the garage door opener button failed resulting in the replacement of the left sunvisor. That was the extent of the issues with this car. Still, my car was built in March of 2014 so any early teething problems were addressed by then. I think if I was buying a ME Corvette new, I'd wait a few months then buy one, but I would not wait for the next year.

I’ll definitely wait 2 to 3 years to see all the versions of the C8. Also, I do not wish to pay list price like I did for my 1st year C7 and for GM to get all the bugs out of the DCT tranny. I hope it will not be the abortion like the A8.

Pre-ordered a 2003 350z in 2002, and had 200,000 trouble free miles. Probably about 40+ track days, 20+ autoX, and lots of commuting. That car was awesome.

Pre-ordered a GT350, and now have 34,000 miles on it. It does drink oil, maybe a quart every 1500 miles, but has 6 track days and no major issues.

Ordered a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, and have 15,000 miles on that. So far, so good. I guess technically 2017 was the first year of the Pacifica.

I'm not afraid of getting an early car from a reliability standpoint, but since GM tends to release their higher performance versions a couple years down the road, that's what I'd be waiting for with the C8.

I waited until 2017 to buy a new C7 Z06 thinking it would be improved upon. Although there were some upgrades and I love the car, it is irritating that there are still issues that will never be resolved (bent wheels, A8 trans, etc.). With that said, I'll look at the C8 and see when there are used ones and after the dust settles. I know it is awesome to have the newest and greatest on the block but that will usually cost you way more money than its worth. I'm not in that position and will enjoy my car for several more years and then make a decision. Others who can afford it, go for it.

I can assure the average first year car will have worse paint than the average second year. And worse fit and finish. It's a fact.

You are all thinking big problems. It's not the warranty issues. It's the "minor" quality improvements. Really paint quality is the biggest one. It takes time to get it nice and smooth.
