A 7L LT-5 (the real one) will blow the doors in on an LS-7. Had GM moved forward w the 3G LT-5, it would have generated over 500hp from a 5.7L and that was in mid 90’s. We have a running example of one today.

It's a known fact that old people die, whether they are 65, 75 or 85.

If the cost of the Cadillac 3.6TT in the ATS-V compared to a LT1 in a Camaro is any guide to the cost of the 4.2TT vs LT1, the 3.6TT cost about $3,400 more than the LT1 - if the 4.2TT is $4,000 more, that would be a direct cost increase for the base car, and would likely mean a starting MSRP closer to $75k. I just don't think GM is going to gamble with the market place gobbling up 30,000 units per year with a starting MSRP over $70k. On the other hand, if they want to give the Corvette a final send-off, maybe just built the base configuration as a 700 hp 4.2TT with a starting MSRP at $125k and a ZR1 at 900 hp with a base MSRP at $175k - 4 years of 10,000 per year production.

Christmas facts:
The list of the most Durable auto engines in the world as rated by consumers with the fewest engine problems is absolutely dominated by Dohc engines. I didn’t bother going far enough down the list to find a manufacturer that uses pushrod engines.
The list of the most hp/liter is dominated by dohc engines. Why does this matter? Because the stupid argument that pushrod engines are lighter only works if comparing same displacement.
Some seem to think smaller displacement dohc engines need forced induction to make hp. Um, see Ferrari.
There is A 2004 interview with a GM engineer who claimed that it would cost GM $400 per unit over the price of their pushrod engines to go to dohc. This number did seem of concern though. I’ll look for the interview and post if I can find it.
Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for beating me to it.
I admire the fact GM's legendary pushrod is a bulletproof engine after all these years of evolving.
However, the LT series and the previous series in the C6 are just lumps of old tech GM has been "evolving" VERY slowly over the decades.
The only reason it is in the Corvette is because it is versatile enough to be used in other vehicles and most of the costs were amortized a long time ago.
And it has worked in the role of a powerplant for America's sportscar, but the end is nigh.
All things must change or die...even our beloved Vette.
I am looking forward to seeing the new powerplants Chevrolet will be putting in the Corvette line.
IF one of them will really sound like the spied C8R that was caught running around the track in Florida I would seriously be tempted to write a check.

As the article states,
"...older buyers are usually better-equipped to buy such an expensive car than their younger counterparts. In fact, more than 40 percent of Corvettes are purchased with cash. There’s a new Corvette on the horizon, though, that might be enough to persuade younger folks with extra cash to jump on the Corvette train." And, "Younger folks tend to buy the Camaro or Mustang."
My 31 year old daughter has several friends (some younger than her too) that would love to own a Corvette, but they can't afford one. Nor does a Corvette meet their current lifestyle; many have young kids... needing to use car seats. In fact one did opt for a Camaro for that very reason.
So the "normal" Corvette buyer is the person that has the cash and the lifestyle (only need two seats... or they have a second car to haul the friends/family).

Bebezote,
The KOTH C4 had a motor designed by Lotus not Yamaha. No one has duplicated what that motor did for 24hrs @ 175+mph in a production vehicle.
Ford used Yamaha heads on their 3L & 3.2L V6
for the SHO in late 80’s and early 90s. Another wonderful DOHC motor I enjoyed driving.

And Lotus used Yamaha heads on the Toyota engine in the Elise/Exige. Lotus doesn't design and build their own engines anymore.

I have 4 automobiles in my garage. Infinity g35, Mercedes E350, ‘94 ZR1, and a 5.3l Suburban. Absolutely Love my Suburban, in fact couldn’t live without it, but guess which one of the 4 has cost the most to own and had the most expensive repair bills.?? I’ll give you a hint, it rhymes with Suburban.

you want to cry a river that corvettes are owned by older people...big deal..once you as a young man buy a corvette...its soo good that as you age...you keep buying them...
young people ...they start out slow with two seat sports cars...
sometimes because they want to be able to take more than a friend...they want to take 3 or 4 friends...
back in the mid seventies...we didnt care as long as we had a seat for our beautiful girlfriend...
today all these metrosexual idiots dont date but go out in groups etc so they need more than two seats...
back in the seventies we were laying out blankets and bangin our girlfriends...today i guess the kids meed a back seat which we used to party in the girls car sometimes...
the kids today dont look up to action heros like james bond...
today the kids have different kind of heros ...maybe people like nancy pelosi and chuck shiemer or bernie samders?
i dont really know and I dont really care...
gm has 65 years of iconic sales and history in corvettes...but dominic you know how to market the corvette better because you can type on the internet?
they are making the c8 with an ungraded LT1 because its inexpensive, durable, compact, fuel efficent and powerful...and gm will offer an upgrade to those who want a 600 or 700 or 800 or 900 hp two seat sports car and are willing to spemd more money for it...
life is always about priorities...
for me? 500 hp in a rear mid engine dct equipped z51 c8 and im good...
for those who want more..open up your wallets wider and have a party....
choices is what makes the world go around...
merry christmas and joe c5 sorry to hear your friends are dying...my best wishes to their loved ones especially on such a joyous holiday.

Ya, I’m sure that nearly Every great performance car builder, street or race, take your pick, use dohc engines because some marketing guy says they should. Did you really just say that??

5 years ago Mercedes introduced the SLS AMG Black Series with a 6.2L DOHC (same displacement as the LT1).

Yup, 622hp and 468lbs...in 2013.

I notice you left out the price. Gas guzzler taxes, etc. Not an accident I bet. You will not see GM maintain 6.2l while moving to dohc. They will drop ci due to gov regs. You will pay more for a smaller more complex turbo engine with a ton of related issues over a simple 6.2 NA motor.
No, not really.

A 7L LT5 would be significantly bigger and heavier (and more expensive) than an LS7.
