C8 will be AWD
News Flash......From inside the GM proving grounds.....C8 will be AWD mid-engine will drive rear wheels, electric motors to drive front wheels. Hence the delay due to new electric drive technology.

Everyone has been saying the top of the line model will have electric motors for quite some time. This isn't anything new.

None of us have access to GM's cost analysis to even speculate on that. However, the corvette already offers 3 different engines, 2 different transmissions, and 3 different body types so I don't think it would be a problem.

Yes but everything is laid out out the same....front engine, RWD. However, with a M.E. hybrid drive train vs. a standard M.E. drive train you’re talking different tooling, different construction procedures, etc. I really don’t think there’s going to be an entry level “ base model” that everyone keeps bringing up, at least no price wise. I think there will be only about 2 levels of the C8 with a starting msrp of around $90k -$100k. The ZL1 Camaro will fill the $50k -$60k perforce car niche.

If base price is $90k+, then bye bye Corvette. Sales will decline precipitously.

Plenty of companies make cars with multiple drivetrains available across a single model of car. It's not a big deal. Ford makes (or did until very recently) vehicles that are available in either FWD or AWD (Fusion, Focus, Edge, Escape... all available with FWD or AWD depending on options). BMW 3 series is available in RWD and AWD. Audi does it too. Plenty of other examples out there.
Making a mid engine Corvette available in RWD or AWD is no big deal. If the AWD part is electric motors that is even easier than fitting a center diff, front diff, and driveshaft to send power to the front wheels.

Many buyers will not want the added cost and weight of all wheel drive.

One of the car mags (Car & Driver maybe) said this several months ago. It would be the top of the line model coming out 1-2 years after the base model.

It would be pretty boring with AWD. No skill required. Might as well just get Tahoe. And an older fun car for track.

AWD would be awesome. I have driven the 911 4S and it handles great. And, it still takes skill to drive aWD to maximum performance.
I would like to see how a hybrid AWD Corvette would perform. It appears Poreche is preparing their 2020 911 for electric motors to be added down the road.

I took a test ride in a 2019 NSX and was quite impressed with its stock performance launching hard on the batteries until the twins kicked in.
If the new C8 will be AWD and over 755 hp, it is going to be fast as ****.
Rear wheel drive and a Manual gearbox be damned. Get used to new technology or enjoy what you have. Don't like GM's bold move. Go buy a Tahoe. But quit ******* bitching already. I didn't like the C7 generation at all. WGAF. I bought a C6 Z06 instead.
I hope the C8 is AWD and upwards of 800 HP AND less than $169,900. For me? That is a super car at a super price.

At this point people are just waiting for GM to say something, so they come up with strange speculations. So I’m that case the C8 is going to have DRUM BRAKES!!!!!! I have an inside scoop, FROM GM!!! You heard right folks! Drum breaks!

No one that is looking for a sports car is impressed with the NSX's "high tech" drivetrain to spend upwards of $160,000 for one.

Honda's biggest problem with their mid engine sports cars is that they never produced one with a V8!
Also, when they were planning for the first NSX, they commissioned a design study from Pininfarina. It was simply amazing, but instead of using it, they produced their own, so-so design.
