My post was a clip of Lightning Lap times from Car and Driver for this year. nmbsun is right, ZR1 is not in the same ballpark as most mid engine cars. It's faster than a 720s and destroys the Ford GT, Huracan Performante and 911 GT3 at VIR.

Conclusion - a ridiculous post.
If costs of ownership of a Sports car are your main concerns you should not even consider owning one. Lets face it, most people that buy a Corvette are the guys that have saved all their life to buy one. So yes GM does sell you a low priced sports car but what have you got?

I suggest you look at some youTube vids of ZR1 vs the above mentioned Cars. For one, the McLaren 720!

Youtube videos are anecdotal and subjective, Car and Driver's yearly Lightning Lap testing is objective and uses data. Not sure what you really have to argue about. I appreciate your opinion, but the facts are the facts. The C7 ZR1 is a world class sports car that is better than other sports cars costing 2-3x as much. C&D proves it year after year with objective data.

While I strongly disagree with the comments of the OP, why do we have to call him a troll with low IQ? He did purchase a brand new Corvette and he shared his experience and opinion with us. Happy New Year, everyone!

1. The Corvette isn't already a "Real" sports car??? People have already argued that it ain't a supercar, so what else can it be???

2. Corvette already competes with mid engine cars at a lower price point. Since it already competes with other mid engine cars we can only assume you basically want it to be a supercar/exotic, and that won't happen at too much less of a price point than what current mid engine cars cost. At that point it will no longer be a corvette as we know it, and that can be either good or bad depending on who you ask...

This thread is awesome.

So Corvettes are crap because the C5 has a cheap interior and some issues. Let’s ignore that this car was designed in the mid 1990’s when all the super car manufacturers were pumping out unreliable crap that looked nice. Hell every car was pretty much crap back then.

And oh yeah, GM can’t build a real sports car because their top Corvette is a little bit slower in a straight line than a McLaren that costs nearly $400,000. Lets ignore that their actual track times on a road course are basically the same.

OK, l'll ignore it..........................How long do l have to ignore it for it to become significant??

I LOVE my C5, it's the prettiest/fastest/best car l've ever owned (on my meager salary then retirement budget, but l have owned a wide-bodied 911 back in the UK) BUT, if l won the lottery l would have either an Aston Martin or a Jaguar..........
(I am a Brit, so therefore l'm bias in that area)

My 2004 C5 Coupe has been trouble free, well other than dropping 7 cylinder with boost, not hardly on GM though. Lol, heading out for "lottery" ticket now! Hahaha

Not even close to the case in our club, most have had multiple Vettes or own multiple Vettes. Half the crew own other brand toys too, tell ya this they all DRIVE the Vettes the most.

I used to have a C5. I loved that car.

I’m not some die hard Vette fan that thinks it’s the pinnacle of performance cars. They are great performers for their price. But if I had the means I’d be shopping for a Huracan or a McLaren. My previous post was more about pointing out the crazy idea that a $130k Corvette should somehow be comparable to a car that costs so much more than it. It doesn’t even make sense when people use a comparison like that to try and make the corvette look bad.

I think GM could build a Corvette that beats the 720s. But people just wouldn’t be willing to pay what it costs, so GM will always be a few steps behind. And that’s fine as Corvettes should always have a base price that makes them attainable by more common people (either from a good salary or saving up for years).

this debate is beyond ridiculous.. GM isnt in the business of building a low volume single platform vehicle... the only reason we had/have Z06's and ZR1's is because the the platform was already in place. the fact that these cars can beat or come within an eyelash of almost every meaningful measuring stick of cars that cost 2-4 times more is a testament to GM and its engineers.

If someone asks me how fast can my car go or what does it run in the quarter i know im likely not dealing with an enthusiast and usually answer with a short and curt answer... or sometimes even more snarky

its about as fast as falling rock
or
ive seen a '78 Fairmont run 8's so its not quite the car the Fairmont is/was.
