Default New GM president

So... I gotta think that Mark Reuss getting his old job back as GM president can’t be a bad thing for Corvette going forward... he was president of the company when the C6 ZR1 was developed, I suspect he will fully support good things for C8 as well. 👌👍

Reuss is part of the new GM push to electric and autonomous vehicles.

from Reuters today:

“(Reuters) - General Motors Co said on Thursday that Mark Reuss would succeed Dan Ammann as president, effective immediately, as part of the automaker's ongoing shift to electric and self-driving vehicles in North America and China.

Reuss remains focused on rebuilding the Cadillac brand and streamlining GM's product development operations, while doubling the resources, mainly engineering hours, allocated to electric and self-driving vehicle programs in the next two years, the company reiterated.

GM has budgeted $8 billion for the development of electric and self-driving vehicles, with SoftBank Group and Honda Motor Co pledging to invest $5 billion in GM's Cruise self-driving unit.”

Hmm.... more fodder for both an electric Corvette and a Cadillac version of the Corvette?

It's interesting how they're rebranding the company as a "personal mobility" company. I get it... just interesting to watch.

Yeah, a desk job will help him stay away from crashing ZR1 pace cars in Detroit.

I think he claimed that the Blackwing V8 will never be used by the Corvette. I wonder if he will stand by that.

He wasn't when "the incident" happened... but perhaps he needed a raise back into the pres position to be able to afford to buy that zr1 he wrecked... since insurance wouldnt cover the car on the racetrack... lol

I believe that was the now departed Cadillac president, Johan de Nysschen.

Accidents like that happen even to the best, especially on cold tires. Reuss is a certified pool driver at Nürburgring, and he is also both FIA and IMSA certified as a race driver. Even Antonio Garcia crashed the #3 C7R in a similar fashion coming out of the pits on cold tires at the last GTLM race of last season. They were able to repair the car so it could finish and hang on to the driver's title.

I made the original snarky comment so I should add that i have a lot of respect for the guy.

I agree with Foosh above abt cold tires and we know how challenging that detroit course can be for pros.
However, there is a lesson to be learned in every mistake. And it’s not abt cold tires... Mark knows he turned off all the driving nannies, as he was overconfident... I hope he has learned that when you’re representing your megacap car company with its marquee car as a pace car, take it easier than usual...at least Antonio was in a race; this was marketing...Lessons are good.

And yes, nothing to be sorry about for Mark as he is a powerful executive now. In fact, Mark was prob always the heir apparent as his father Lloyd was also briefly President of GM in the early 90s.

No kidding, years ago I made the big mistake thinking I that I did. I’ve regretted that for years!
