My question is - How much attention do you want? I think the newest Ferraris are awesome, and if you but a CPO Ferrari it comes with a great warranty. I have 2 friends who own Ferraris and wherever they go they attract attention. Make sure you want the attention before you write that check. Will the new C8 be a great car? I think it will, and given GM's engineering expertise I believe it cold be better engineered than the Ferrari, and more reliable as well. But, let's face it, it will not have the panache of the Ferrari.

So my question is this - what are you looking for? If it's being noticed, buy a Ferrari or a Lambo. If it's performance plus spectacular engineering buy a Porsche Turbo S. If you are a Corvette lover, buy the C8. The C8 likely will not outperform any others, but it will be right there, and likely more reliable and easier to get serviced. Not to mention more affordable , which has always been a Corvette calling card. Personally, I owed a Porsche Carrera, and love my Corvette way more than the Porsche for may reason, most of which is it's more fun. I cold have upgraded my Porsche and instead bought the C7 and have no regrets.

Do what you want as you are the owner and you need to be satisfied. Money not withstanding, The Corvette is the best buy.

I’m just sitting here enjoying the fact that this is actually a reasonable discussion to have. Props to GM as I don’t think that even 10 years ago someone considering buying a modern Ferrari would even consider a Corvette as another option. This is exactly what GM needed and was shooting for when they marketed the C7 to a “younger” non-traditional buyer. The ME vette is the next albeit giant leap towards moving the corvette from the stereotypical “ old man/ gold chain/ factory “rat”” sports car to an actual contender on the world stage. So here’s to you GM!

Lol they may be true for some folks but not everyone with money wants to spend mortgage size money on a car.

To the OP ..original question to buy a 458 now, sell later when newME comes out.
it is winter, a well bought 458 or better yet a Scud, should lose little value if you sell in higher demand times.
A well bought Scud is probably the best insulator to depreciate on the market right now, as far as Ferrari’s go. However a Scud compared to a 458 is like a Porsche GT3 on steroids compared to say a Carrera S or Turbo. A special car and amazing experience, the Scud, but not for everyone.
If you are planning on some track time at all, pretty hard to surpass the Scud as far as “feel and sound” on a track.

I talked with someone who had a Scud and then bought a 2011 Z with Z07 package. He tracked them both, the Z was actually a bit faster, mostly better brakes according to him, and the Z was ofcourse a stick compared to the F1 auto box on the Scud. However he said the the experience, feel ,feedback, steering, sound, etc. etc. was no comparison, obviously talking about a car that cost 3 times as much new, and it shows what a great value Vettes are.

In any event go for it OP ! Get that 458, or as someone else recommended, get a 599, they are hitting the $150k levels now, and a amazing GT car at the bottom of depreciation , you may not sell it and get a ME when the time comes !

Poke around Ferrari Chat, some 458 years are experiencing transmission or shifting issues, so a little research should guide to the best years. The newer the better. The one you posted is a prefect and my dream spec, red not yellow calipers, forged wheels, and a painted or wrapped black roof. If that is the car you drove and it is a later model, jump on it !

Being in So Cal, Ferrari’s do get attention, but not near as much as my 97 Viper GTS, blue/ white, so it depends.....
Most Ferrari owners I hang with are enthusiasts, do some or a lot of their own work, and the last reason they bought a Ferrari is to get attention, As a matter of fact, me in included, most are uncomfortable with the attention.
I admit I love the look of my 360, the feel of it, etc. so it is a admiration of the car itself, not the attention it may garner.

I also have a 2017 Shelby GT350, it gets as much if not more attention than the 360 Ferrari. And not all good with everyone trying to race you and blasting around to try and bait me....

One of the best sounding V8s ever.

I wanted to drive a fast, challenging car at the track. I am not sure what the Ferrari folks in Utah do with their cars, but they don't seem to come to HPDE days. Maybe they don't want to be seen with us ruffians. An unexpected upside was having folks come over to stare at the C7 when I am getting gas and ask me if it is a Ferrari That is a lot better than having them come over to stare at my Ferrari, and ask me if it is a Corvette.

I would do it if

1. You are close to a Ferrari dealership or tech for maintenance/issues.

2. You dont mind or maybe actually like extreme amounts of attention.

I just sold my 458 last fall. Traded my 2016 CTSV for it.. Lost my butt on both badly...
I had a 2012. Awesome cars. Sound, you will get attention like nothing other. Especially kids. I enjoyed letting them sit in the car and get pics. If with parents they always thanked me and said I made their kids day. All worth it right there.

I use to let me 16yr son drive it to the gym on Sunday with me. We would pull up to the gas station and folks would freak out when he got out of the driver seat..
Its a race car.. Creature confronts are not there. Bluetooth is so so. Radio sucks. and if anything is wrong...BIg big $$$$
I was on my last maintance....Said I needed a battery a 900.00. and a few other minor items. Seat belt clip. Rear 3rd brake light has a chip. total would be 3400.00. NUTS!!!
I put it on consignment right that day.
I can say I owned one ...if I win the lottery I will be happy to get another.
some music

What you've said is right on target. I have two friends that own Ferraris and both admit frequent tune ups are required to keep them running at peak performance. I'm amazed at the cost of the tune ups along with everything else associated with these cars. Even though my friends have the money to own these cars they do occasionally gripe about the cost of maintaining them.
