Default Question--why would someone not just buy a Ferrari?

I'm actually debating whether to wait for the C8 ZO6 version or buy a Ferrari 458 Italia. I figured the C8 ZO6 version is probably at least two years out. I test drove a 458 Friday and it is one hell of a car. I know the 458 is more money used and it doesn't have a warranty. But I could buy the 458 now and enjoy it for a year or two and see what happens with the C8 ZO6 when it does arrive. Thoughts?

I have owned close to 50 cars in my life, including 11 Corvettes, Porsches, (every German car) and 2 Ferraris. It is almost impossible to buy a car that sounds better than a Ferrari. But besides that, they are crap. Lousy technology, poorly built, always in the shop and ungodly expensive to service. Give me a Corvette (currently a '16 C7 Z51) or Porsche any day.

Since you seem to have the funds to do as you wish, will you adopt me?

I'm deciding between waiting for the C8 or just buying a Bugatti Chiron right now

If you want something different than what you have, go for the 458 now and C8 Z06 later. YOLO

How true.

My question too.

I have heard old Ferrari models are a big problem, but the newer ones are much less so.

Sounds like you already have it figured out. The 458 is probably the last NA V8 mid engine by Ferrari so buy it, enjoy and share some pics.

The 360 was notorious for being plagued with issues. Although it's a beautiful car and was my dream car as a youngster, I would never own one.

I've driven a F430 multiple times. Beautiful looking and sounding car. Wouldn't own one of those either. A C7 Corvette is all-around a better car and looks nearly as good IMO. Not to mention the price and cost of ownership are worlds apart.

Now, the 458 or the 488 I would die to have.

The Ferrari comes with a full 3 year warranty (that can be extended year to year for a nominal fee) and 7 YEARS OF 'BY THE BOOK' MAINTENANCE!

We love our Ferrari and will likely keep it as long as it's covered by the service program (that comes with most models and is included in the purchase price).

We are on two lists for the ME C8 and will trade our C7 when we pick up the new one.

The stuff about poor Ferrari build quality and reliability is CRAP! They are outstanding. Go for it!!!

When the time comes, I think my decision will be between the C8Z or Lamborghini Huracan.

I had a 458 coupe and then traded it in for a a 458 spider. Sold it back to the dealer after 6 months.

Too much hassle/ attention / worry. Example: the leather seats are awesome but the leather wears like crazy where you slide in. So you try to avoid having your butt hit the bolster every time you get in and out to protect it. Or you can't park it where you want for fear someone will give you a door ding or worse from jealousy.

I personally know someone who had a 458 and was reended just over 5 MPH. The car had to be sent to a special Ferrari repair facility in San Diego. Fixing it costed over 50 grand and took 4 months. Then there was the "diminished value" because it was involved in "an accident".

It isn't worth worrying about every idiot on the road.

I have a 1995 Ferrari F355 that I have owned for 18 years.
The statement about them being built like crap is incorrect.
After 50 road race track weekends, mine still runs perfectly and is still on its original clutch.
Nor does it have any rattles or squeeks.

The statement about them being in the shop regularly is spot on.
They are closer to streetable race cars than racable street cars; and you pay for the maintenance of a real race car.

But nothing sounds like one.

with the US infrastructure the way it is, its hard to have nice things. Here in the NE, the roads are so bad, even in the nicest neighborhoods. We bought my wife the mercedes coupe she always wanted last year, she had low profile tires, the NE roads laughed at them. One pothole put a bubble in the tire, next one pops it all within the first year. I've had my restored 69 fastback black on black gorgeous 69 mustang totaled by a starbucks coffee ******* not paying attention. So yeah, I fantasize about getting a McLaren one day, but I'm not sure with the roads as they are its even possible to enjoy it even if my wife did somehow loses her mind and says go for it.

If you have the means, get the Ferrari now.

It will probably be at least 2 full years until the next Z06 equivalent is actually on the road.

My plan is to get one. It'll be the one you can actually drive, use like a real car, and on which you can rack up the miles: the C8 ME Corvette.
