No thanks! Cadillac has very little appeal factor! GM should go all out on the C8 and give it all the options and bells & whistle options that meets every need! Cadillac should focus on SUV's and being accepted as a true luxury brand and leave it to GM's one and only Halo car which is the Corvette to be the pinnacle of GM's technology, performance, quality & high-end options!! Plus who is really going to buy a Cadillac sports car? Not many, it will be discontinued after 2-3 year model run and hurt Cadillac's reputation even more and more saving its face!

Yes, and I'm hoping that Cad doesn't try this again, at this time. This just seems not to be the right time for Cad to build such a car.

I don't see any difference at all here with regard to the frenzy, rumors, and speculation associated with the GM ME vs. with any other upcoming new gen, hot car among it's respective fan base. It's the same frenzy for them all on the internet forums leading up to the intro, and GM is handling it the same as all manufacturers, which means not saying anything. It can never come soon enough for the fans. You're probably just more tuned into it because you're a Corvette enthusiast.

My mind wonders where is Caddy going to build such a car so that the build is done correctly? If this Caddy were to go into production at an assembly plant that didn’t have the skills that the Corvette plant has in KY, it could give the ME negative reviews as flaws start popping up on the Caddy. Way too soon to have Caddy take the ME and run with it.
My second wonder is, who is Caddy building this car for? Most guys that like Caddy’s like Corvettes and see the two cars as different animals. Likely such a ME Caddy would be for old men and woman and not adventurous men and woman who want the real deal, and would buy the Corvette without giving a ME Caddy a second thought. Personally, I have always liked Caddy and I’m in the process of buying a ST5 as my 4 seat car. Both cars are a joy to own and drive but are light years different.

Wall street and the automotive press will crucify cadillac for having a low volume rear mid engine sports car that sells no more than the nsx or R8....
it wont be a halo vehicle for coolness even if its a true competitor to those cars..
the press will torture cadillac whereas the nsx and r8 brands get a pass...
its a sport to torture cadillac and gm marketing...
even if its a great vehicle,,
just not a smart move,,
halo vehicles are now hot rod cuvs
too bad as it would have been inexpensive for cadillac to rework the c8 for a low volume cadillac sports cars..
even the mercedes AMG GT is very low volume ...but the press wouldnt dare crucify mercedes like it would cadillac for poor return on investment decisions ...

The Top Speed article is pure speculation based on the key FOB with the cadillac logo photoshopped onto it.
Based on the XLR's sales, there will not be another XLR. And we have unlimitedPower's report that the Cadillac-engineered version will just be another C8 sub-model, which if true is clever way to offer a luxury grand tourer without the added expense of a new exterior design.

I don't know if a Caddy ME makes sense in today's market.
I would love to see one though.
Of GM's current offerings, only the Corvette rivals Cadillac in aesthetic beauty IMO.
I don't know why Cadillac gets so much criticism on this site...
FWIW, I owned a 2005 XLR and 2012 CTS-V Coupe, and an Escalade for that matter.
All 3 vehicles I enjoyed and thought highly of and all 3 were bulletproof mechanically.
With one exception: the XLR.
It too was bulletproof mechanically, but the interior had a crazy amount of squeaks.
For some reason, my car was cursed (I checked the Caddy Forum and no one had anything like mine).
Anyway, from the very first speculation concerning the C8 on this forum, there was talk of a Caddy ME.
I thought there would be one too...it made sense to me.
I believe it was part of the ME's original corporate strategy.
In a quote in the media, the former Prez of Cadillac practically admitted as much.
Whether or not it still is, I dunno.
The XLR was never designed as an alternative to the Corvette...it's target was the Mercedes SL crowd.
Unfortunately, GM misread that bunch and few switched to the Caddy.
A hybrid or full electric and/or AWD luxury ME should bear the Cadillac emblem IMO.
YMMV.
