To use the A10 trans in the C7 they'd have to do the tooling for a new transmission case (as current A10 is single piece case, bolted directly to the engine, and this application would require 2-piece case), plus bellhousing and tailshaft housing and tailshaft. Certainly doable, but rather than throwing $$ at doing that, if they continue the FE variant (an unknown at this point), they'd likely just skip that and go DCT across the board for the auto.

I agree the A10 is a good trans, indeed a great trans. Just think that IF they continue the FE they would capture the lower per unit costs of a DCT by utilizing the same supplier to supply a DCT for both it and the ME. But the broader point is that the A10 as it sits right now, simply isn't a plug and play option - not without throwing some $$ into engineering it.

fantastic....but I can’t imagine that on a corvette ,or any other pure bread sports car...
Maybe in a muscle car,but that’s the limit.

So what Tadge really says is "as you see, there is no structure around here (gesturing toward the transmission)". IOW, the transmission is simply bolted onto the rear axle with no supports or structural pieces around it. Since the A10 fits in the the "same space" as the A8, according to the GM official media release, there is no reason not to use the A10 in a refreshed C7. Further, since the A10 is massively better than the A8, substituting it is simply a no-brainer.

There is already a thread in the C7 section. The op of this one, for whatever reason, felt the need to post up an ‘alert’ in the C8 section to the fact that Rick Conti posted in the C7 section about a the C7 edition coming out... rather than just just adding his thoughts to the OP in the C7 section, maybe he felt that nobody in the C8 section.....reads the C7 section?

I kind of hope it's not another "Grand Sport", being a ZO6 with a ZR1 body. I guess it would make sense if it solved overheating problems but just trying to figure out which model and trim is which without badges would fool even most Corvette fans much less the average car person. Isn't the current GS already discernible from outside appearance from a current ZO6 besides badges and wheels(and hash marks)? It just seems it muddles the Corvette brand a bit too much imo.

That would be a bold move on GM’s part: Here you go loyal customers, a fix we should have a put out to the line but were going to charge you extra. It’s ”special” so you pay the ”special” price...

The sad thing is, it works. The Corvette team will move a few more higher $ units with some cheap stickers and a little interior plaque.
I guess the rest of us should be happy as these kind of things help the bottom line for Corvette.
