MP4-12C

Yup, that is a car I would love to have, even more than the current models. You are right the price for one of those used is almost to good to be true.

As far as modern ME's go, I think my favorite as far as looks go is the Ford GT:

However, I'd like to kick the powertrain engineer in the nurtz for crippling that beautiful car with a v-6. They should have just sold that car with the Aluminator engine in it already, and the only mods needed would be a cam swap and a tune.

As an engineer, 6 cylinder engines make the most sense. Love that Ford GT.

Also, many times the cars that are referenced and current are one off show cars, not production cars, or the hyper car.

With all the regulations, safety measures, pedestrian standards and EPA regs is it possible to approach the look of a Miura or a 250 LM? The closest I get to being right to my eye is the Ferrari 458 Italia, how about you?

Well, the 84' Lamborghini Countach is perfect. So is the 93' McLaren F1. Both are timeless (and expensive) works of art. Neither are strictly 'modern' though. The prettiest 'modern' mid-engine for my money, meaning one that was available as a 2018 model, is the Koenigsegg Agera. The understated curves of the McLaren 720s are hard to beat though. The Huracan is overstated, so not interested. The new Ford GT just doesn't do it for me, is a bit of a jumbled mess. And the Ferrari 488, while nice, is outshined by its older sibling the 458.

Oh, right, the Ford GT is all about being a sensible car...

Lol, right. Storage, yeah it's got storage, it's called the passenger seat!

All kidding aside, it does have a certain beauty about it, not to the degree of a Miura though to my eye.

Not a fan. It doesn't look complete. Something is missing.

You're right. Just one little thing that's missing that would make it complete is the title in my name.

If getting a Ford GT, I prefer this one.

As an engineer, I respectfully disagree. Cross-plane V8s make the most sense in many performance cars (notice I didn't say all). Balanced in first and second harmonics. Power pulses every 90 degrees of crankshaft angle for smoothness. Excellent power density for the size and weight.

This is my "mid-engine" car. Which I have along side my C7. Personally, I really like the lines of the R8, more so than the Lambo, IMO. this one is also the RWS model, so its rear wheel only and is made on the same assembly line as their LMS race car.

ya know, completely forgot about the R8, I have to say, in Black that looks outstanding. Very nice angle on the photo too, I like it.
