Who would be happy if the base C8 only came with the current 460 HP (as with the current performance exhaust). I have no problem with ONLY having this much power. What say you?

If that's what it takes to keep the base price near the current base C7, then I'm fine with it. It doesn't do people any good to have a higher horsepower car, if they can't afford it.

A 460 mid engine car with a DCT if light enough could be a 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds. I would think with a shorter exhaust system and some minor engine modifications it could be closer to 500.

Perfectly happy with 460 hp. I can't keep 460 under control; my C7 rages in 3rd gear around 5000 rpm (on the track at NCM), and that's in track mode with all the nannies watching.

IMO, there's about 1% on here that can use 460, much less 500+. Even that's only on a track, unless you're being really stupid on a public road.

Depends on the weight.
If the car comes in at 2700lbs then 460hp would be great, but at 3700lbs 460hp wouldn't be nearly as good.

Porsche has got along just fine selling 300 - 400 hp cars for decades and no matter how much power Chevy injects into each new Vette, it always seems like a 50/50 mix of which car ends up being the better car over the years, from mag reviews to customer experiences. Porsche and it’s owners have seemingly figured it out: there’s more to a true machine than gobs of hp through two wheels. It would be nice to see GM crank up the “intelligence” and quality of Corvette so at the end of the day, the knee jerk response from us isn’t, “how much horsepower does it make?”

Unfortunately, there are still folks out there who value raw power over drivability. I'm not one of them but they're out there.

Let's put it this way, all the electronic assisted crap wouldn't be as intrusive as it is if the thing didn't need it all... as long as power to weight is good and you're putting it down efficiently, 400-500 is very fun imo.

Lately, GM has created some Corvettes that have so much torque, that the phrase "diminishing returns" comes into play. Between this, and traffic that's always a lot slower, there's not much point in it anymore. Obviously, I'm talking street use as that is what the car is built for. (If it were a track ONLY car, GM could tell the DOT to go to hell, and build that 2200# car that we all wish to have.)

I'm in the camp of, factory HP doesn't matter to me, as I like to heavily mod cars.
I'd be happy with an engine with that shares a bunch of architecture with the predecessor.
With the current LT aftermarket, it would be relatively cheap to build a forged motor ready for some boost.

My goal would be a "poor-man's" 720s setup.

I agree with most that the C8 base will start with number 5. Less and people will be disappointed.

The new ME is more than an evolution . Corvettes have always been increasing HP . It would be a disappointment to radically improve the car and not the horsepower.
I'd buy it, but as soon as a higher performance variant was available That's my car.
OR........If there was a base model with 460 hp AND a high performance model released at the same time I'd be ok with that.

Lighter car would be better than more HP. Power to weight ratio makes a fast car.

Its really about power to weight ratio and torque that makes the difference. By removing the DOD, the LT1 can easily make 500 hp and that is more than enough. don't forget that the throttle by wire and drive mode holds back power delivery on the C7's an the car comes to life in sport and track modes... so 460 is really enough for any street driving... more is just a waste.... get rid of DOD and it'll be fine!

My guess is 500 HP, but it is strictly a guess. Could be 490. Could be 511. It will be more than 460 HP. As we all know, with the motor/transaxle over the rear wheels for far superior acceleration traction, and with its standard DCT, we could well see 0-to-60 in the 3.3/3.4 second range.
