495 HP and 500 HP if you buy the performance exhaust! (here's a signed cheque just fill it in)
If you have the traction.
My current C7 starts spinning the tires in second too easily as it is with 460.

I think it needs to start with 500 hp to be the game changer GM and all of us think it will be. That is not because it makes it necessarily a better car than 460 or 490 hp, but for marketing, 500 hp is a true milestone.

I'd be completely fine with 460 in the $70K base car. That amount of power in an ME design would be a track monster with more usable power off the corners as well as from a standing start, and more than 99% of owners can ever use. Going ME is not about going faster in a straight line.
460 vs 500 is round-off error in terms of performance and irrelevant except in the minds of folks who like to brag about HP. I do suspect the base will deliver a bit more than that, and come in at 500 or so, just so GM can market it as delivering "more."
Given GM's MO w/ the Corvette, a "$169K" version that comes 1-2 years later almost certainly will have a hell of a lot more.

Regardless of price or HP, the ME Corvette will be one giant leap forward for all Corvette mankind.
So better be the performance to match.
Current top-tier performing ZR-1 is the staple.
Anything less than an improvement over the ZR-1 in performance or HP is a step backward regardless of exterior design.

if the car is light and puts the power down it would be fine. 450 or 500 horse might blow the doors off 650 horse. The c7z is a heavy pig with 650 horse and it ain’t so great.

So a 3000 pound car with 300 HP (to make the math easy) is necessarily slower than a 2000 pound car with 200 HP on the same tires.

Base at least 500hp
You can bet it will have 500 hp minimum! Absolutely bank on that, I think 550 is not out of the question.
Thinking 550 to 1000 hp will be the range from base to top dog ME.

It's going to have about the same hp as the base C7 for $60k. You're not getting 500hp plus for $60k. The cars going to be about the same quickness as the C7. Moving the engine isn't going to make it any faster. So far the car looks nothing like a vette and sure as hell doesnt look like a $250k super car as folks are wishful thinking. Remember this is a $60k car. I think it's going to be a bust. You will see a few on the road but not many. GM will kill the vette and Camaro off due to electricfication very soon.
Who wants a dead silent car not anyone I know.

I'm pretty sure you're going to be eating most of those words.
I can't see it being a bust at all, assuming it is priced close enough to the C7 base, and it wouldn't surprise me to see sales of close to 40K or more the first year, with the factory working multiple shifts to keep up with demand. That's exactly what happened in year 1 of the C7.
And yes, a well-designed ME chassis will be faster around a track, weight and power being equal, than the C7.

Lol
It’s insane to think they will launch an all new mid engine car under development for 50 years, so to speak, and have the same base hp as the car out there since 2014! I would take that bet with anyone.
Keep your eyes out for 500/550 for base ME and 1000hp for the Top Vette! Chevy is not going to allow the Dodge Hellcat engines to live uncontested at 707-850hp melting 0-60 times.

I agree, but practically speaking the difference between 460 and 500 is round-off error. However, it should be easy to kick an LT1 derivative safety up to the 500 level, but that would be primarily for the marketing bragging rights of delivering more.

My guess is 500 HP, but it is strictly a guess. Could be 490. Could be 511. It will be more than 460 HP. As we all know, with the motor/transaxle over the rear wheels for far superior acceleration traction, and with its standard DCT, we could well see 0-to-60 in the 3.3/3.4 second range.

IMO and from what I see in auto history, introducing a completely new chassis architecture and a new power plant at the same time is tough. Following this line of thought, the kind of chassis change the C8 represents would be accompanied by engine carry over from the C7 for the first model. Doesn't mean a bump in HP wouldn't occur. Does mean that I'm guessing the C7 engine will be carried over with upgrades well within the current engine envelope for the intro model. My Guess - 480 to 500: trying for 500 would be a stretch for marketing impact.
I personally agree with the light weight, good power to weight ratio folks but admit that HP sells not power to weight ratios.

They could play with that new 6.6l block they have floating around too. Probably not, but maybe.
#39
True, but that's primarily due to ignorance. A lot of consumers buy a 500HP vehicle expecting it to be faster than a 400HP vehicle, having no clue that their purchase weighs 4.5K lb. and isn't going to perform nearly as as well as a 3K lb car w/ 100 less HP.
