Happy With 460 HP?

It's going to have about the same hp as the base C7 for $60k. You're not getting 500hp plus for $60k. The cars going to be about the same quickness as the C7. Moving the engine isn't going to make it any faster. So far the car looks nothing like a vette and sure as hell doesnt look like a $250k super car as folks are wishful thinking. Remember this is a $60k car. I think it's going to be a bust. You will see a few on the road but not many. GM will kill the vette and Camaro off due to electricfication very soon.
Who wants a dead silent car not anyone I know.

I've been pissed off at 460 since I bought my C7 in 2013, it should've been 500 minimum.

There is no way they are launching a total redesign of the corvette with the same power as the outgoing model. I also don't think it is going to come in lighter than the C7.
Something within a few hp of 500 is a lock.

No, 460 is not enough. I won't buy another Vette with the same HP as the LT1. I'll either get a C7, Z06, a C8 base or pump up my current C7 when the warranty runs out..

If they run out of ways to get the LT1 up to 500 hp, they could cut a deal with Ford for an upgraded version of their new 7.3L.

It seems to me that even if they used the LT1 as it sits, the opportunity to improve intake air, exhaust flow could bump BHP 25-30 HP. Add the revised drive train possibilities that could allow more power to the wheels and you would have a car that drives like it has 500+. The torque curve is hard to beat in these engines.
That said, the last three generations of Corvette have all been introduced with a new engine, I doubt that something as monumental as the first mid engine Corvette would be released with the "same old" powerplant. Too me, that just doesn't make sense.

The ME is something many Corvette enthusiasts have been waiting for most of their time as fans of America’s sportscar icon.
I know I have since the first ME was shown in NY in 1970 as a spoiler for the intro of Ford’s Pantera.

That’s what some of us are trying to advocate for. This DOHC controversy is the latest in the long line of “breaks w tradition” the purists get their panties in a knot about w every new generation.

Talk about wasting the legacy of that motor. The Powertrain guys have been trying to erase the memory of the Lotus DOHC DESIGN for a long time.
We just won’t let them forget it. In a very enthusiastic DIY community, the DOHC LT-5 continues to evolve.

460 is enough in my opinion for our C7s. For marketing the new model needs to be at the 500 or greater mark because a goodly amount of the Corvette faithful are into HP numbers. But how to achieve that is the question. I, for one, do not want to see simply more dumb displacement. The ME car has to be viewed as technologically current for it to be part of the supercar fold. That does not include 6.6 NA litres of engine. It means OHC and a notably higher redline. I probably means turbos. In other words, engines that are more like other supercars. There is no problem with having a LT derivative "base" engine but the car has to launch with an engine that is a technological tour de force to be considered seriously. Yes I am aware of the long term concerns of such engines but by now those concerns should be engineered out. That is unless the beancounters ruin it - a very real possibility considering the sway GM money folks have over the engineers. By now you would think that they realized their fall from dominance was created within the finance offices. GM, look no further than Hyundai to see how to rise from the ashes.

Many of us that currently own the C4 ZRs were appalled that GM used the LT-5 moniker for the SC pushrod motor.

Fair enough. How about "supercar slayer"?

Its time that GM finally buries the “best Corvette yet” headline whenever a new gen comes out. Its a left handed compliment from the automotive press. They don’t say that about Porsche. A new Porsche immediately gets compared to lambos, Ferrari, etc.
Its time for the Vette to be viewed that way. It deserves it after 66years.

My thoughts:
All trims go on a diet and drop 250 to 500 pounds. I can't be the only one who thinks they had have gotten too heavy. This would possibly mean smaller engines with more output though which would anger some. I think more gain would be relized from cutting weight than adding power at this point.
As a matter of fact I would even say I wouldn't be disappointed if there was a model below the current base with a V6 naturally aspirated in the mid to low 300 hp range that could then eventually be modded to have a twin turbo setup. Such a car I think would help expand the customer base by having a lower cost option that gets better fuel economy in a light weight two seat sports car (something the camaro is not and can't be)
