I'd venture a guess more of them have carried golf clubs than have ever been on a track, so by that logic Chevy should be able to cut out race track development trips.

I believe the anger is directed against GM, not the game of golf. The concern many have is that Chevy in their endeavor to sell as many C8s as possible may design a car which will not be pleasing to many Corvette buyers.

I can comfortably say that if anyone expects the C8 to be as track focused as the Ford GT, with all considerations going to designing the optimum track shape and forgoing many modern day luxury items plus, literally, no space for storage, they will be highly disappointed.
GM expects the C8, like every generation before it, to sell in volume; and that means it having comfort features and storage space sufficient to do most things all of its luxury 2 seat competitors can do. while some would appreciate the second coming of a super high performance C5 Z06, that isn't going to happen.

When the C5 was in development the requirement from the project manager was to build a car that a driver of 6'2" could fit comfortably. Next was to provide enough space for 2 full size sets of golf clubs plus luggage. They did what no other sports car manufacturer could accomplish. I drive a C5 Z06 and use it on vacations and take two set of clubs plus luggage for me and my wife. Why you might say, because I want to enjoy my Z06 when I get there. I could have taken my Hummer H2 or my wife's SUV but what fun would that be.

Default Yes, another golf

The golf stuff/hatred here cracks me up.
Played yesterday at a course 35 min from home. Took my CE C5 vert/two sets of clubs/top down and 32 year old son on a beautiful summer day. I drove one way, he drove the other. We talked about the usual stuff but yesterday added talking about proposing to his girlfriend.
Priceless.
I hope the C8 gives me a day as good as that one.

My "guess" is the high rear folks complain about is where they might fit! GM buyers care more about storage and will tolerate some compromise in "looks" than Ferrari buyers. The Ferrari 488 ME has a similar front shape so frunk, shown below will be similar to the C8. But the Ferrari has sexy rear! Can't call the higher C8 rear sexy, BUT bet it has a lot of storage- we'll see in a few weeks.
So the Ferrari can fit an Asian in the frunk... Which I guess in the right situation could come in handy, but how many golf clubs can it fit? Can it fit an Asian and a putter? These are the things important to putting down some solid numbers.

Maybe GM will drop the Stingray name in favor of Kardashian.

The traditional coupe looks good and carries a boatload of stuff. When the Vette is your DD, you love the convenience and, frankly, I never felt the looks or performance were remotely compromised.

We did the 2014 Caravan in a C6 with plenty of clothes, fold-up chairs, and 2 sets of golf clubs (full disclosure -- short a club or two and jammed into "Sunday bags") AND driver could see out the rear window.

We plan to do the same thing with our C7 this year.

So long as the C8 can fit 2 people and enough space for luggage needed for a week to 10-day trip, OR one set of golf clubs and a small collapsible pull cart without resorting to the passenger seat, it will suit me 95% of the time. That's plenty good enough...

I imagine the coupe will have more available space than the vert, as is always the case, but I envision the coupe having storage much like this. In fact, the Mclaren GT will probably be the direct competitor to the C8.

I don't understand the obsession with golf on here. How many people even play the game anyway? It's a declining sport. Maybe the car should hold two snowboards, or two sets of skis and boots. Maybe it should hold a tent, cooler, camp stove, and two sleeping bags. Maybe it should hold two back country backpacks and hiking poles. Maybe it should hold a telescope. They could call the Corvette a Sports Activity Vehicle. Whoops! I think that name is already taken.

I've used my Corvettes on many long trips and hope they have decent storage space. But, do you know the difference between "ignorance" and "apathy?"

We have already schedule our first long road trip. Not concerned about luggage space at all. Bob Lutz has twice told the truth when he stated, that “GM has solved the mid engine cargo space issue.”

Odd that people are worried about space for golf clubs affecting performance, but also seem to want inferior brake pads that don't dust.

All that tells me is this car isn't a true one use sports car, and must be incredibly versatile if it wants to continue selling in the numbers that it does. As such, I expect GM to continue a masterful dance between performance and daily usability.

Totally agree with your observations...

I want luggage space up to that point where it turns the car ugly or MATERIALLY impacts performance. A tenth or two is way outside what I notice or use. Same with the brake pads. Obviously the C7s OEM stuff is REALLY good on the street -- and in Z51 guise more than adequate for the odd HPDE in the novice group. So if I lose 10 feet 70-0 braking by getting really good ceramic pads, I still probably have better braking than 95% of the cars out there (and more than enough for the way I drive which is "enthusiastic" but not "nuts", and maybe 1 HPDE per year) AND no dusting.

I bet that thinking represents the vast majority of C7 owners insofar as the performance/practicality balance is concerned. Maybe even more representative of the subset of that group whose Vettes are DD's...
