Default Removable top with a C8?

Will this still be an option? Where would it be stored?

I’m guessing the reason for the large rear hatch (compared to other mid engine cars) is so the top can be stored in the back. Wouldnt be surprised if we ended up with a small trunk back there too (like the new NSX).

A removable top could also be stored in the same place the covertable hard top ends up when the top is down. Where ever that may be.

Going to be both a removable roof coupe and a HT convertible (“Spyder”) option.

Unfortunately, it appears GM has continued with the removable roof. In my opinion, this was a mistake given the number of compromises that have to be made. A removable roof means you are cutting out a big portion of the car's structure. You have to compromise styling and storage layout to accommodate a big roof panel. It's a source of squeaks and rattles. The car's safety is reduced, because there are no head air bags.

This feature for all practical purposes is not used. Before some people get all up in arms saying "I take my roof out!", then consider this: In the many thousands of Corvette sightings I have seen in Southern California over the decades, I have NEVER seen one Corvette with the roof panel out. Not even one. This is in an area with the best weather in the country. Meanwhile, I have seen and heard many Corvettes with manual transmissions, and it appears the Corvette dumped that feature. Go figure!

I love targa tops. Structural rigidity is never a problem for decades in corvette since the c5.

i think and its just guess behind the seats ....with a second location on top of the engine but thats doubtfull...

if I were to guess....id say standing straight up behind the two front seats.

i love targas..

btw the safety standard requirements of convertibles and targas are lighter than fixed coupes which is why the solstice gxp coupe had a targa roof...(that didnt fit in the car) the corvette c8 will be able to carry the targa in the vehicle...

roof off targa driving experience is one of my favorite aspects of all my corvettes.

I have owned a Corvette for 29 years and don’t like the targa top at all. I have taken the top off often because a passenger wanted to drive without it. I am OK with a fixed roof.

So let me ask you something, Jerri. If your son or daughter, or wife was a passenger in your Corvette, and a car ran a red light, hit your Corvette broadside on the passenger side, resulting in severe brain injury to your son, daughter or wife, that could have been prevented with side head bags, is that Targa top still worth it?

The roof is considerably narrower than the rear deck, and what appears to be the possible removable panel in the photos is not that large, front to rear, so my guess is it will fit somewhere under the rear hatch. Hey, gotta usethat big butt for something. LOL

Just like EVERYTHING else, there will be people for the targa top and people against it. I am one for it. I love the translucent roof and the way light enters the cabin with the roof on and even more so with the roof off.

I’ve owned every generation since C4, and as far as squeakes from the targa top, there have been major improvements with every generation. Finally, the targa top on my C7 does not squeak (nock on wood).

My first corvette was a C4 and the first time i took the top off (probably two days after i bought it) getting up to 35mph the car started shimmering/vibrating, i slowed down vibration went away, hmm got back up to 35 again vibration was there again, if you went faster or slower than 35 the vibration was gone, I then called the dealer service dept and they said ohh sales didn't tell you about the 35mph issue with the top off, i said no , the service guy said yes it's normal with all of these 96 vettes! if you put the top on there was no vibration at 35.

I sold the car about 3 years later for a z71 and didn't buy my next vette untill 2016 but i remembered my 96 issue with the top off and asked the salesman if the 2016 has any vibrations like my 96 and he laughed and said no never heard of any, He 's right my Z06 doesn't have any vibrations at least up to 100mph...

So i like the option of a removable top and if the car comes out someday i will be waiting / watching these forum's for any issues... also will not be buying a basic 1st year vette, going to wait for the Z06 or Zr1...it would be nice if there is room to store the top it in case of rain, which if you look at the sky wrong in the Seattle your gonna get wet

I'd like to see a FRC with better stiffness, rigidity and handling dynamics.

I do love to removable top on my C7 though. The option to go roof-off is pretty nice.

I'm a huge targa top fan, take it out all the time. However, now that we have a hard top vert, why bother with a targa?

This is just dumb. I guess I could make up any scenario where your family is killed or injured and ask you if any part of the story was worth it.

My guess is cost. Hardtop verts aren't cheap.

I guess... but seems more logical to have a fixed roof and a hart top vert.

How ‘bout a “targa hard top vert”… a targa top that stows away with the press of a button #sharktank

So let me ask you something, Michael. If your son or daughter, or wife was a passenger in your Corvette, and a car ran a red light, hit your Corvette broadside on the passenger side, resulting in severe brain injury to your son, daughter or wife, that could have been prevented by driving a big SUV instead of a Corvette, is driving that Corvette still worth it?

It's easy to come up with scenarios where you can make driving any car seem completely illogical, but that doesn't make them very convincing arguments. Statistics would make for a better argument.
