There is only one Corvette dealer in the US as far as I'm concerned. MacMulkin.

Went through the hoopla of being 1st on the block with my C7, no regrets but this time I’ll patiently wait 2 to 3 years before ordering C8 and getting all the bugs worked out and better pricing.

When the time comes go down the list.

Now that’s simple and straight forward!
Common sense would indicate that 100s, perhaps 1000s, of no cash balling dreamers would turn the list into an exercise in futility. The deposit separates the folks who are committed from those that aren’t.

I have purchased 4 Vettes from Tommy Jr.
Of all the vehicles I have ever purchased, which have been far too many, the least amount of BS I have ever encountered has been with Tommy Jr. !

There is the problem... You will never know where you are on a list that no one ever sees. They can collect 2K from hundreds of customers and apply it to their balance sheet all on a promise to submit an order for you at some point in the future. You have to ask yourself why would a business who claims to have more customers than product bother with taking a deposit before they are ready to submit the actual order? The answer is pretty obvious. Just make a list prioritized by date and when you have the product available start calling customers from your list if you truly want to make it simple.

Futility? All it takes is a simple phone call or email and if you get no response within whatever period you set you move to the next person.

Respectfully disagree...but love your avatar.

Deposit keeps the riff raff off the list. MM held my $2k for over a year, do I mind. No I'm getting my car. Time value of $ maybe $100 at 5%, and since MM does not charge dealer admin. fee (some locals like $900 admin. = Hendrick) still come out WAY ahead.

The MM C8 Z06 list is at/over 714 if I recall correcty, the highest I've seen on this forum and goes up quite a bit each week.

In a perfect world, your scenario would work. Unfortunately, in reality, if people do not have some skin in the game, there is no incentive to follow through and separate the men from the boys. If someone who is most likely spending $80k plus on a car can't come up with a $2k deposit, that speaks volumes. Even with that, a decent percentage don't follow through with the actual purchase. It would be an enormous waste of time to take names and no deposits. You could potentially have a list of 2000 tire kickers having to turn away serious buyers and when the time comes, all the serious buyers went elsewhere and you would then have allocation and not enough "real" buyers. Some dealers require $5k, $10k or more before they order the car. The idea is to have a fair and orderly way to distribute the car manufactured to the buyer's specifications and not have to tie up funds unnecessarily for dealer stock.

714 seems hard to believe it is that high. That is almost more than half of their annual allocation.

Can anyone who recently put a deposit for a Z06 confirm what number they are?

I am sorry, that was just for C8s. On the Z06, it was 309 yesterday, see post #34 at this link:

Thats pretty low. I placed my deposit with Criswell last week for the Z06 and I'm 504. Think I need to also place a deposit with MacMaulkin.

Their true and one and only motivation is to make money.
period.
as with all businesses.
imagine how much money they will make on the interest alone sitting in that escrow account. .
