Here is my $.02. I own a C6Z and there are times I see my car in a video, pictures or in person and say wow, after 10 years this thing looks amazing! However, at certain angles or parked next to the C7Z, I can see how people think the C6 looks dated," especially the narrow body versions. Now, as far as the C7 goes, there are times I think the C7 looks like things were just "tacked" on and bulky. However, I have seen certain C7Zs that had very tasteful mods (slightly lowered, beautiful high end wheels, etc) and think wow that is one beautiful car. In general, as far as the C6 and C7 go, I have always preferred the aesthetics of the Z06 versions to the "base" and the ZR1. Not saying the Z06 is a better car than the ZR1, but for me it is a better looking car. Finally, (again for me) I think the C4 is the least attractive corvette, but it is far from ugly. As I type this, a thought struck me; who knows if we see things the same anyway? Two people could look at something and be seeing two totally different things. How do I know that the shade of "blue" you are seeing is the same shade I am seeing? My point is, what you see as ugly, someone else sees as beautiful. In the end who cares? If you like it you like it!

Wow, really? IMO the C7 is pretty good looking and the C4 is ageing very well. The C4 design is a very clean classic wedge shape, especially the 84-90 cars. Buy a cheap C4 now while you can. Remember when no one wanted a 73-82 C3?! That's changing quick.

^ I personally love the wedge design of the C4, it's just perfectly period correct. But you reminded me of a buddy who used to call my yellow C5 Z06 the "cheese wedge" because it was yellow and, according to him, "all corvettes are just wedges, like a doors stop".

While I generally agree with you that few are giving out info specifically to be posted, there is no small number of folks who will share inside secrets amongst friends at the bar or what not, whose friends then proceed to go and post it online.

Haven't been lucky enough to get anything on the Corvette, but I go to the brewery in Milford quite a bit, and every once in a while there is a GM employee who is probably letting just a bit more than he should out.

So, in your opinion, what makes a sports car? Is it 2 seats? The Camaro has great performance across the board. It will blow away Corvettes from not too long ago. Is it light weight? If that is the criteria, then is the Corvette a sports car? It is fairly light compared to cars today, but it isn't light compared to cars in the past. Is the Miata the only true sports car since it is truely light.

I guess it must be that a car must have only two seats.

To me, a sports car always meant excellent handling, blistering acceleration, and a powerful, robust braking system. I’ve driven sports sedans that make you forget there is a backseat. The Camaro’s back seats aren’t even useable (I DD a ZL1) they are there to give you a better insurance quote than you would in a Vette. But the car is still 9/10 of the car you get in a Z06 3LT for 65k.

Bingo!!!!!

"Sports car," "pony car," etc. are totally meaningless words these days. Those words had some meaning decades ago when the only choices were light-weight, 2-seat roadsters and light-weight sporty cars vs. heavy tank-like sedans.

I think it was BMW that began changing the rules in the 70's with serious sedan-like cars that could out-perform many of the sports and "pony" cars of the day.

Since the final tune is being honed on the MRC for finalization this summer it would be a good time to run a honey trap op out of that brewery.

Perhaps effective, or we could just wait for a couple of months. I know what I'd do.

Noticed your touchpad was scrambled so I fixed it for you:

C7, C6, C5, C2, C1, C3, C4

Also, a C7 Z06 with the Z07 package is amazing looking car. All it needs is gas.

The C3 and C7 definitely share the same lineage. Obviously they’re my favorites. Which one is prettier is a matter of Opinion, However if there had never been a C3 there would have never been a C7.

Personally, I think it is sad that the FE is going away. The low long hood, and sloping rake played a major role in making the Corvette iconic. But time marches on the only thing that is constant is change.

Eh, those guys are smart enough to keep their mouth shut. Generally just someone who happened to be in the right place at the right time to see something in the garage or driving by on the track.

There is always overlap. So if you want to call the very large and heavy Camaro a “sports car” be my guest. And, if you want to call my Z51 Coupe a “GT,” well, I would not say you are wrong. But, can you agree that nobody will call a Challenger a sports car, and nobody will say a Miata is not a sports car? In the “continuum,” my take is the Vette tilts toward the Miata while the Camaro leans toward the Challenger.

More generally, I see it as a size-weight thing plus “purpose.” My “image” of a “sports car” starts with something like the old Stutz Bearcat. 2 seats, lighter weight than contemporaries, removable top, performance orientation. A tradition with commonly-accepted standards like MG’s, TR-series Triumphs, Austin-Healys, 356 Porsches, Fiat Spyders and X-1/9s, etc. Certainly in the ‘50’s, 300 SL’s and Vettes would have been “big” sports cars. The Datsun Z civilized the affordable sports car but it could be classified as a GT I suppose. And then there is the Miata as well as the MR2.

My specific beef with the Camaro is it is a pony car. Too big and heavy, actual rear seats (Don’t go comparing with the 911 or even old 944 jump seats.)

Can you make it a “sporting” car? Of course — and they’ve been doing that successfully since the 60’s! I’m sure there are people on BMW forums who argue that M2’s and M4’s are sports cars just like their Z-cars. I’m not buying that, and I expect an overwhelming majority of sports-car lovers would agree with me.

If you like labeling things, it's important. Otherwise, it's rather meaningless, with performance being the only thing that matters.

BTW, BMW M8 competes in the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship in the same class as C7, 911, Ford GT, and Ferrari.

Maybe some do, but I don't find the terms "meaningless."
Those words bring very specific meanings to this guy.

IF the definition of "sports cars" is all about "performance," then, yeah.
However, I don't define a sports car based on performance alone.
Miata anyone?

Just a thought. I know that some would love to see a FE Corvette alongside the ME Corvette. But the fact is that even in a market the size of the US there is a very limited market for a two seat performance car in the $75,000 price range. If we had both they would be cannibalizing sales from each other. Not enough people have the interest and the finances to support that market.

I think there would be a market for a lower priced versions like the Miata or the Solstice. But they will not have the world class performance of a Corvette.

We have to keep in mind that these cars that we love, or love to hate, are basically just a toy. Due to family requirements, finances, or just a lack of interest there is not enough demand to support a robust market for a high performance two sear car in the $75,000 range.
