I consider a Porsche and ‘56 Healey with rear seats (albeit small) and even a 4 passenger Ferrari a “Sports Car.”

Yep — though don’t you think it depends on the Ferrari? I can differentiate between sports cars and GT’s. I put the “big” Ferraris in the GT category, and would argue the modern Vette really bridges the GT - sports car “gap.” Miatas and 718’s I stick purely in the sports car camp.

And then there’s “supercars” and “hypercars.” We could argue for days — as many on this site will do!

Desirable ME sports cars are priced above what most can afford. A base Cayman is close to base Corvette in price but way behind in performance. From there, you're into multi-six figure territory. 911S, 911 Turbo, ... McLaren, Lamborghini start at 200k.

I think a ME Corvette will sell like hotcakes. I don't see anything wrong with GM going towards a rear mid engine layout for Corvette. It's the right decision. The extra cargo space of a FE is nice but I'd rather have the exotic profile of a rear mid engine.

And GM will price to do that. The use of a low cost pushrod V8, solid front rotors and 305 section width tires give a clue that the base C8 will be close to the C7 price.

Likely the more advanced C8 variants will have a more sophisticated, smaller cid twin turbo engine with more power. It will probably be the one offered with the FWD electric drive hybrid option that Andy Pilgrim leaked. As he defined, it is a reason for an ME for those who don’t care about lower polar moment of inertia for high “g” turns.

Pilgrim also gave a “hint” that the C8 will hold “golf clubs!” Looking at the shape of the front, the “frunk” looks like it could be bigger than that in a Ferrari 488 ME, which is about the volume of a C7 Vette and half of the coupe. However the rear of the C8 looks higher than the 488. Expect Andy Pilgrim knew full well the C8 holds golf clubs. Perhaps two sets! The rear is wide and the area above the transmission could hold clubs, one on top of the other.

SIDEBAR
Will be interesting to see the specified storage capacity. GM elected to use an SAE “suggested method” for defining storage volume at the time the C7 came out versus their prior method with the C6. That older method was based more on how many ping-pong ***** it could hold. In fact the Caddy CTS, which had no body change at that time, was listed as ~1/2 the volume with the “new” versus old measurement method.

I'm glad I bought the best FE Corvette ever made. 427 Convertible.
Although I could see myself going for a convertible ZR1 in a few years if the value tanks.

The 427 C6 is a fantastic ride for sure. So awesome to drive/cruise in a vert with all that ball busting, N/A torque. I bet you agree.

The SAE “suggested method” did not allow counting volume above a certain height as I recall or areas that were not readily accessible.

Soon after I got my C7 I had to bring one of my standard packages to FedEx and wife was using her SUV. Had often done that with my C6 and went on to town etc. That box held two 500 foot hose reels and brass fittings, it measures 18x18x16 inches high. Could not close the C7 hatch.

Improvised and put the two spools, fittings boxes with unassembled cardboard box flat along with a 3M packing tape dispenser in the hatch! Packed it when I got to FedEx! Since the flat area is about the same as the C6 have not had an issue carrying groceries. When shopping at Sam’s Cub, have placed a large package of paper towels in the front passenger seat! They will surly fit there in the C8.

Don't forget the 60's Jag XKE coupe that was available as two seater or with a back seat(2+2).

Exotic profile of a ME? Really? It looks like a pick-up truck: stubby hood and long rear deck.

Yep, that’s what some of us want, a C8 that has a pick-up capacity rear! Perhaps that rear shape is to hold golf clubs!

As opposed to your hatred of a ME Vette having been “convinced” GM would continue to build a FE Vette and proven wrong, why not let those of use who will buy one judge for ourselves! Really don’t care what you think!

“Form Follows Function” so the superior handling, room for a FWD hybrid as Andy Pilgrim showed as another benefit of a ME as well as that rear shape to provide more storage space, are all reasons it will look great to me!

If it looked like the Ferrari F8, the ME would be fine. But it looks like a rolling brick. I suppose you love the rear spoiler too.

Spolier is useless off the track so I don't care what it looks like. The FE is DEAD. Breathe it in, brother! You lose!

My guess is the Grand Sport I’ll get when it comes out will have movable aero, a “modern engine” and wider tires! Yep, I’ll pay more than the base C8- no problem!

Yep, I like the look of my two 1967 330P4 Ferrari’s better (albeit very small) BUT would not be practical as a DD as my C7 is and C8 will be!

Fortunately there are lots of other choices out there. If Corvette decides to abandon the market it has profitably dominated for over 6 decades, that's their choice. You can't fix stupid.

Since you talk about coulda/shoulda/woulda all the time, how about this. Let's say the C7 was available from the start (2014) with a 7 speed manual or a 7 speed DCT. Do you still think the manual take rate would be 20%?

Well Porsche is bringing back the manual for the 911 even though they have a great DCT. I think the C8 DCT is going to be very problematic, so many buyers would not want it just for that reason.

Why are people still arguing about this? Stop wasting your time on here and get out a little. We will know everything in 3 months. It would be one thing if we still did not have a reveal date... but we finally have a set in stone reveal date. No point in wasting more time on speculation.
