Will you buy a first year C8?

Too early to say if I will buy a C8 the first year. Too much that we don't know as far as pricing, options and even what it looks like without the camo. Add too, that I just bought a new '19 Grand Sport with a manual transmission and from everything that I hear...the C8 will be only offered with the dual clutch transmission. Then you have to think that there will be no discounts the first year and have to contend with first year bugs. I may wait a year or two or who knows...not at all!

I doubt I'll buy, but if I do it won't be until the 3rd year.
I don't want to be a beta tester.

I have never owned a Corvette and only the mid engine is of interest to me at present. I will buy when I'm offered my chance. I've had my deposit in with Mike Furman for close to a year. He tells me that I'm in under #100 as a location for allocation. I have no doubt it will be a first year model and I have no qualms at all.
On another note, I have perused several various blogs and forums and more and more I am seeing folks say they do not want a mid engine Corvette. This is not a trend, it is an opinion that is finally coming to light. If this is true, perhaps the numbers that some think GM will sell are a bit exaggerated.
Now, when/if they offer a front engine GT (grand touring) car, much like the present C7, and if they modify the design to be a bit more elegant, I would perhaps be a buyer of that performance car.

If there is no manual transmission GM will lose 20% of normal sales. Those usual Corvette buyers will just hang on to their present cars or buy something else. I bought the 2014 Z-51 and had a few minor issues that were fixed easily and I loved that car, but then I bought the 2016 Z-51 and noticed an overall quality difference. I would probably buy a 2020 manual Z-51 in the new car if it's offered. If I was a paddle shifter I'd probably own a very comfortable but boring BMW.

Doubt it.... my guess is a large portion of manual buyers (myself being one of them) would suck it up and buy a DCT car. No manual is not a deal killer for me.

Yup! In line with a dealer and plan to purchase a first year C8. You only live once, and my time/experience enjoying the vehicle is far more important than waiting a few years to save a few thousand bucks. The car will be reliable and under warranty, so there's nothing to worry about. Now if I currently had a C7 I might considering waiting a bit longer, but at this point holding out for the C8.

2022 for me. The car improves every year. By then, hopefully the bugs will be worked out. In the meantime, I hope to enjoy my 2019 Grand Sport.

The C7 didn't really improve every year. It got the A8 in 2015, but that came with headaches for a lot of people. Otherwise, the biggest change was in 2018 with some new electronics, which were fairly minor upgrades. In November 2017 during that short 18 MY, and after the refurbished plant and new paint plant opened, it was treated to a better paint job and smoother body panels.
The intro MY 2014 was arguably the most trouble-free year by many yardsticks.

Mid engine Corvette does not work for us. We travel with our Corvette and need room for luggage. Mid engine car will have very little storage room, so we just bought a 2019 GS Coupe that will serve our needs for the next few years.

I have it on good information that the new ME will adequately handle the C7 luggage set.

Of the 15 or so Corvettes I've owned, I will not consider a first year model again. My early 2014 had a number of recalls and the third brake light was replaced 5 times and was still delaminating when I traded its in on a 2017. I think the ideal time to buy is the third year of production when they sort out the bugs and have fewer restrictions on options/packages.

I have a financial goal to buy a Corvette in 2024- I’m just hoping they don’t pull another five-six year generation, otherwise I’ll be tempted to wait for the C9!

Agree. My 2014 Stingray was mostly trouble-free. I had a seat bolster that needed repair, but other than that and a minor recall for the fuel filler neck, the car has been reliable and without issue. As has been the case with Chevrolet, they make improvements in year 2 of their series release, so that might be the only reason to hold out. WIth the C8 being such a game-changer, I don't think there will be any leftovers on the showroom floor!

I will have my 2016 three years this June so I am on the fence. I want to see what C8 convertible looks like? Since I am the Corvette manager at our dealership I can buy a C8 at dead cost. So my thinking is do I buy a 2019 if GM puts some big rebates or offers 20% off? Drive it for three years and then buy 2022 and see what other models are offered? Or do I buy a 2020 if I like the look of the convertible? I don't know what I will do?

Sure why not? Thats what a warranty is for. All yrs will have some kind of problem so why wait.
