Could it possibly be that the C8 base did the Nürburgring in 7.18 , since that's aprox 16 seconds faster than the C7 base. thoughts

If it did, we'll never know. GM has NEVER published a Nürburgring time on ANY non production car.
And on top of that, that would make the C8 slower than the ZL1 1LE....

I doubt the base mid engine car is expected to be faster than the top level Camaro. If the base level C8 were a 7:18 capable car, that's 1 sec faster than the C6 ZR1, in addition to the fact if the base car does enter the market at the 61k-68k range you're likely going to have far superior ride quality and diverse capability than a Camaro ZL1 1LE.
In "theory" 7.18.19 could be 7:18.19

And what is your point?? I would certainly hope that the flagship Camaro with a 650 HP LT4 and lots of aero, fancy suspension, etc would beat a base model Corvette with a naturally aspirated engine and very little aero.

And slower than the 2020 450 HP 991 S that ran it in 7:15. Hopefully, it will be quicker with additional HP

NCRS Convention, or its awards banquet in Greenville won’t be that big of a venue. The Automotive Hall of Fame induction ceremony is July 18 at the MGM Grand in Detroit. Perfect mix of auto execs and automotive media, and it’s Detroit.

The 992 Carrera S is advertised as doing a 7:25. That is with rear wheel steering, pasm, big carbon ceramics, etc. Not a base Carrera S by any means.

If a base C8 can't beat a Camaro ZL1, then what is the point of going ME? On the track a C7 GS is faster than a ZL1. If ME isn't worth a significant decrease in lap times, it will be a complete failure. The reality is, if the 500 hp ME can't beat the lap times of the current Z06, after all the pressure he applied to GM management to build a ME Corvette, Tadge will be shown the door.

Well, it's pretty obvious people. It's GM's Super Duper Secret Allocation Equation....
07 X 18 X 19 = 2394
And, there you have it. 2,394 C8 Mid Engine Corvettes will be built for the first run. Get those deposits in Now........
