Hmm.. I like the idea of slowing production a little to improve quality. If it works. Raises costs though. http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/04/...n-later-today/

I know it's old school, but clicking on that article and seeing what those folks wear just irks me. I'm only 37, but they should at least have some kind of professional standard dress. Jean shorts on one lady, baggy cargo shorts and sloppy t-shirt on the other guy. How you dress says a lot about your mindset. Watch videos of any Mercedes, BMW, or Porsche plant in Germany and you just "feel" like you're getting a better assembled product already.

On the NCM website, there is a statement about 2 announcements pertaining to the C8 that will be made on Friday, April 26.

The C8 proportionately looks better to me in person than it does in all of the photos I've seen. There was one at the end of the paint booth viewing area that was quite obscured and a second in the shake and rattle simulator room at the end of the tour that we were allowed to look at for several minutes. The press area for Mary Barra's announcement is set up in the expanded area of the Performance Build Center and I believe will take place early this afternoon.

dont tell GM I still have these but when I worked in the plant in the 70’s some of the operators were issued two pair of these stylishcoveralls each week if your job was extremely dirty or had exposure to paints or shards. Other than that, it was come as you were, mostly jeans and Ts. It’s always been that way and not likely to change.

I work for a contractor that services a Toyota plant in Ontario, and the standard of dress there is much different than I have seen in Bowling Green. Anyone who is a team or group leader is in uniform, same for engineers etc. All regular team members wear long pants with belt buckle covers and no metal buttons or zippers exposed. It's a more professional look.

But the BMW plant in South Carolina is non-union and people don’t dress like they just rolled out of the meth lab in the trailer park.

You're right. That has a lot to do with it as well.

Yep, I used to work for a Tier 1 supplier as an ME to the Lexus/glorified Toyota plant in Cambridge and we were not allowed to wear any clothes with metal buttons or zippers, or belts anytime we entered the building.

As it pertains to the dress code in the factory: it's only the truly ignorant among us that believe someone's dress code actually has any effect, whatsoever, on their working habits, level of attention to detail, or any such thing like that. It's simply false, but feel free to enjoy your ignorance.

I, for one, am glad the BGA plant guys and gals can wear what feels comfortable to them. Comfortable employees are happy employees. And happy employees do excellent work.
