Anyone worried about first model year gremlins?
I bought a '14 Stingray Z51 that has been, knock on wood, pretty much trouble free, but it wasn't as much as a departure from the norm like the ME car will be so is anyone a little apprehensive about buying a first run model, should I be? I'm not only worried about mechanical issues I'm also worried about what options will be offered in the second model year. Remember the '15 had a few things available to it that the '14 didn't, do you think this is a legitimate concern?

Not going to be a popular answer; yes I think it is a legitimate concern about first year gremlins.
That is a concern for any new car not just a vette.

This car is a bit of a departure from the C7. The DCT could be one possible major component that will require proving out. Not that GM cannot get it right the first time but the fact that this car is going to be a first for Corvette was just another reason for me to watch from the sidelines for the first year. In all honesty though that is what the warranty is for and likely any and all problems that crop up will get sorted. If the C7 was not such a good car it would be far more tempting to dive into the ME pool right out of the gate.

Yes so we're not so worried about mechanical stuff, if something is going to go south it will be within the first year of solid driving and my guess, 20,000 kms (12,400 miles) so warranty will cover it but I still don't want the thing spending more time in the shop than in my garage. Ok, what about options, colors, models, etc? I would've loved to have Android Auto and PDR on my '14, colors not so much, I always knew I was going to get white but if that blue interior was an option I may have chosen it instead.
Time will tell I guess.

I havent made up my mind...a little bit of a concern and debating in my mind...
i believe gm will stand behind any issues but I did have a 2001 z06 that needed to be reringed....
was corrected seamlessly by world class gm tech....and never had a never issue with the car but...it did occur...l
of course my c6 with an ls3 in the first year has been flawless..l
at this point if you place an order for a first year c8....i believe a 2020 c8 would offer a april may delivery.......a 2021 model would probably be july august.
are those few short months driving an existing corvette instead of a c8 worth giving gm a little time to tiddy up any possible forst year issues?

The only thing that kept me from buying a new Ranger in March was lack of the trim and availability of options I (didn't) want.
If I had the $80k for a toy car, that's the only thing that would stop me when the C8 comes out too.

Buy later in the model year and read the reviews. My biggest worry do not live near a large GM dealer, just a small dealer here with mostly new trucks on the small lot.
Going to be a lot of nice trade in's is my guess.

Early adopter each of following generations:
C4: 11 recalls and a dealer service dept that didn’t seem 100% engaged. But all this was 36 years ago!
C5: No issues.
C6: No issues.
C7: One very minor issue that required software programming to fix a “dim dash at dusk” issue.
Given my experience with the last three generation’s very fine results of the first year’s cars, I would have no qualms getting an early C8.

Not as concerned about the gremlins as I am about the improvements by year 3. Regardless of how nice and problem free the very first year of the C8 is...Future years will have further refinements, added features both in the cosmetic and usefulness departments and most likely be discounted from list price. I will be watching with great interest and curiosity to see how years 1 and 2 go for the early adopters.

Not at all, since not going to buy a 2020 C8 ME. Will wait at least one year or two.
Being a late adopter is good for letting others that have to be early adopters discover and deal with any teething pains (and lack of competitive discounts).

I don't know. I'm not in the market, doesn't make financial sense for me at my age plus I have the 84 as a paid for toy car... but my experience was as follows: I just bought a 2019 colorado and the amount of options that have been removed from it since 2016 were kind of impressive. Not major things but stupid little crap that you don't notice until it's gone. For example, no more usb ports in the consol so I have to leave my ipod visible if I chose to leave it hooked up. Not a deal breaker but something that would have been nice, you know? I noticed also that option packages on various GM vehicles have changed through production. Removal of colors from base and adding them to the upcharge list or option packages just losing certain options all together. Like when does a pretty loaded lt2 trim not have fog lights? Weird things...

The C7 was advertised as an entirely new car/design, but it wasn't. If you jack up the outer skin and interior, how much of the drivetrain, computers and electronics were totally new vs upgrade of the existing C6 systems?
The C8 not only moves the engine to a new location but introduces a new transmission and an entirely new electrical system and new computers. The extent of the changes is much further out there when compared to the C7. I don't know if I'll buy a C8, however, I've decided to wait at least one probably two years then decide.

I don't like to buy first year model cars. If you look back at the C7 there were a lot of TSB's the first couple years and then it slowed down. I also don't buy cars the first year or two because I don't like paying MSRP
The C8 is very new and different and I would also be concerned with Corvette service techs having the knowledge and experience for the first year or so. For folks who track their cars a lot there could be cooling issues like there were with the initial Z51's and Z06's.
But overall modern cars are pretty trouble free even the first year, and as long as it's not your primary transportation it's probably not a big deal.

I’m getting a first year C8,I had a great experience with my base 1 llt stingray ,which I still own and intend to keep.
Although ,I understand the this C8 is a completely different architecture...Corvettes are secondary cars in my situation,(your family ,kids in grade school etc..)
Obviously I hope it doesn’t spend too much time getting serviced at the dealership, but I find the value proposition to good to let go in a first year base model...I saw the C7 price hike 3 consecutive years after 2014.

I am buying a larger horsepower model which I believe won't be available the first year anyway?
