Default Video of C8 Corvette acceleration on a Detroit highway

Via https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2019...nds-fantastic/

Someone came up on the next-generation Corvette driving in Detroit on a three-lane highway and got a proper video. Not only did they have their phone held sideways, but they also turned off the radio and lowered the window to capture the exhaust note from the C8 prototype that we estimate was probably traveling the speed limit if not a bit slower due to traffic.

The driver of the mid-engine prototype may not have seen the cameraman in a truck who was rolling up on him on his left side as we see and hear the C8 Corvette suddenly accelerate and move over the right lane. Luckily, our driver that doing the filming also accelerates and we have this wonderful side view of the C8 headed down the road.

You will want to turn this up!

Love the sound of that pushrod V8 being shifted by that DCT.

Not a very long car, it looks tiny. Have to see around in person for awhile to see if it grows on me. Doesn’t look like a Corvette to me at all. Not that, that’s bad. The important thing is how fun is it to drive!

The only resemblance to prior generations will be the crossed flags.

The cross flags and the old school push rod motor. I’m waiting for the DOHC.

That IS the million dollar dilemma.
Buy the C8 at launch and get the best of both worlds: a proven engine family combined with the benefits / beauty of the new mid engine design and DCT.
Or, roll the dice with an entirely new universe of engines and wait for the ZO6.

I'm going with option ONE and the best of both worlds.

It better not look like a Corvette! It's all brand new! It better look like a lion killer for what this is going to cost.

Nothing wrong with GM pushrod motors. But here’s the thing for me. If I’m abandoning the front engine and the manual trans in a sports car, I’m abandoning the pushrod motor too.

I’m sure it won’t be that much more than the current model. I don’t know about lions but I hope it slays black stallions and bulls.

The pushrod V8 is physically smaller (allowing to mount lower and closer to the center of the car for better weight distribution and center of gravity), is lighter, is less complex and cheaper all while meeting the power goal GM has set. So with all that being said why would you want a bigger, heavier engine that is more expensive, hurts all performance aspects and doesn't make any more power?

I’m thinking that a naturally aspirated 600 hp DOHC flat plane crank 4 valve per cylinder motor is what belongs in a modern ME DCT sports car. And if that isn’t enough madness slap a couple of turbos on it.

Why, if the pushrod motor kicks the DOHC cars asses?

You're not getting that in the base car, thats for sure.

If they made an NA 600hp pushrod engine it would still be lighter, smaller and cheaper, so why do you want the bigger, heavier DOHC? What benefit does it have?

I think a proper physically small and lightweight V8 belongs in a modern ME sports car, not a huge heavy one.

Have you seen the size/weight difference from a Coyote to an LSx?

Look at the difference between a Nissan VK V8 and an LSx

Pretty tall rear from top of body (not incl. spoiler) to bottom of camo? Lots of space to 'fill'. But the sound is good!

An advantage of a DOHC motor is the number and weight of the reciprocating parts. They are less in a DOHC engine which allows it to rev higher.
