Ferrari and Lambo owners--are you buying C8 since it's mid engine?
#21
Two of my neighbors have Ferraris and there's no chance that they will buy a C8, regardless of where the engine is located. Why? The GM logo. When people spend $300K+ for a car, `they are making a statement to the world which they won't make with a GM product. As a matter of fact I'd be surprised if Ferrari owners know that a mid-engined Corvette release is imminent. Moreover, I expect that GM is targeting the 911 and not Ferrari market.

The problem is Corvette really has no straight up competition.
It is a unique car that no one, except GM, is currently making.
Do a side-by-side comparison with an ordinary 911...
They share almost nothing in common.
Performance matters more to benchracers than actual people writing a check for a new 911.

Once I see the C8, I’ll decide whether to trade my C7 Z06 or not. Probably wait for the C8 Z06.

Is that gate just to make a shift easier? Does it still have a clutch? Can you skip a few gears going by rpm? never had a manual.

A Gallardo with a manual seems like a keeper to me. That has to be pretty rare.

I always find questions like this from the OP funny, as if it lends some sort of credibility to the car if people who can afford exotics/super carss/whatever they're being called now days buy the car. There's two things that will determine whether I and/or people who can afford exotic cars buy the C8, and it's the same two things that anyone else will use to determine if they are going to buy it. 1. Does it look good(inside and out) 2. Does it have a great driving experience. That's it, not the emblem on it or that it may be somewhere around $70k, or if it goes 0-60 in 2.XX or the 1/4 mile in 10.xx, they all haul *** now so those numbers really don't mean as much as they use to. Bottom line if it looks good and is great to drive people are going to buy it regardless of their income level.

Melting Slicks
I have owned many exotics, to me all have different personalities and its not all about engine placement. I buy what I like and don't care about the brand, it's about the experience and how that car makes me feel. I had an Audi R8 with a gated shifter and regret selling her, similar to the Lamborgini those are keepers because manuals are fading away. The new C8 is going to gain a lot of new fans, will it replace the Ferrari, McLaren, and other exotics in someones stable, I am not sure but I think it will be an addition.

Opted for practical
I was looking pretty hard at the Gallardo. Great looking machines. I opted for its cousin. A little more practical but still a ton of fun. hard to beat a V10 wailing down the street at 8500.

What is it about the interior of this type of car specifically this Gallardo that is sooooo much better than what one sees in the current generation Corvette. Personally I'll take what comes in the C7. Some of these European sports car interiors are Spartan and looking a bit like that of a utility type vehicle without colored seat belts and stitching. I guess some here just have the mind set that if it is Lambo or Ferrari it is automatically 10/10 in all categories and not to be questioned and god forbid criticized. Ones perception can be in sharp conflict with reality.

A few weeks ago I had my local Porsche dealer mount four new Michelins on my 997S. While waiting I checked out the new Porsches on the dealer's showroom. One of the cars was a GT2 RS which had a MSRP of $325K, but there was another line "ADM' for $50K, which brought the new total to $375K. I asked the SA if people really pay a $50K dealer markup. He smiled and said not only will they, but they did. The car I was looking at was sold, and the owner was picking it up on the weekend. In addition he told me that they have one allocation for a 2020 Porsche Speedster which lists for $280K. That car has an ADM of $100K, and the future owner has a $50K deposit on that car.
Maybe I'm wrong but I highly doubt that buyers of cars like these will be in the market for a $75K C8.

I'm cross shopping the C8 and an Lp570. At one point I was at a dealership getting the paperwork sorted for a Gallardo, but then the new york unveil happened and I decided that I'm just going to wait until the official unveil before I do anything. I currently own a C6 and have had it since 2013.
At least in my situation I'm not comparing these cars on paper. The c8 will be a technically better car than any Gallardo.
The difference for me is that the Gallardo and Murcielago are cars that I have always wanted, and even though these days the value proposition isnt great, they arent the newest things, they arent the fastest things, I'd still rather have one of those than nearly anything else on the market. This isnt for everyone, but for me a Lamborghini or Ferrari is more of an emotional purchase. If the C8 winds up being ugly I'll get a refund on my deposit and buy a gallardo, fully understanding that it is going to be a "worse" car than the c8. Its just a car I like.
In the Gallardo subforum on one of the big lamborghini forums (not naming which) there is a thread exactly like this, and a lot of the posters are saying exactly what I'm saying. They didnt buy a Lamborghini because its the best car, the best value, or anything else. They bought it because its special to them in one way or another. I'm not sure if Huracan/Aventador owners fit the same mold as Gallardo/Murcielago owners, so I cant comment on that. The two generations are very different.

I think this is stated perfectly. Some cars are bought because they were drooled over as a kid. Maybe they make your heart race when you see them. No question a C7 Z06 is a better car / deal than a Gallardo and even a lot of other "supercars" . Some things are bought with your heart and not your head. It is also pretty cool to have something a little exclusive. I drive to the office everyday like most of us do. I see corvettes everyday. Rarely do I see a Lambo of any model. I see a Ferrari California occasionally - good looking car. I have a 19 Zr1 and it is a bad boy for sure. Great car. When I drive it I get the occasional thumbs up and people generally like the car. I drove my 17 Audi R8 to San Antonio over the weekend . Many people on the freeway taking pictures. People in parking lots taking pictures and asking about it. I know the R8 is not a real popular car and gets bashed here on the forums pretty regular . LOL . However because you don't see them everyday they do draw attention. That is part of owning a cool car . We all like people to like our toys so we can talk about them and enjoy them . The best thing is so many different cars out there. Everyone can find what they enjoy. Whether it is a VW Bug or a Aventador . A butt for every seat. I for one am excited about the C8. Rumor is there is a going to be a 1000 hp car eventually. I am on on that. 200 MPH car in the mile with a warranty. In my opinion that is a game changer. No one else is doing that. All that being said I still love to see a Gallardo Spyder rolling down the road. I have 2 cars that are technically better but it does not matter you like what you like.

good looking- yes. as a boulevard cruiser. As a track car my c7 GS is much better. the braking system on the Gallardo sucked, even on the superleggera model. After a couple hard braking corners the brake pedal would go to the floor. which is a scary feeling when driving off into a corner at 100+mph

Sit in a Audi owned gallardo, it is well built. Now compare huracan to c7s interior. Night and day difference.

There are many of us in the car enthusiast world who just don't care at all for the European "exotic" stuff for a multitude of reasons. Anyone who buys a $300,000 with the intention of making some type of statement to the world likely has some significant insecurity issues regardless of the width of his wallet. Your true position in life is a derivative of your character and NOT what is parked in your garage. Anyone who would seriously question this has very little conception of what life is really about.
