First page response is all you need to read.
Corvette is trying to shutup the naysayers. However, no matter how much the Corvette beats Ferrari or Porsche by, there are people who will say "Yeah, It is impressive, but it is no Ferrari, Porsche" ...or any high end car. That's because Corvette has a brand image that simply is not as lofty as those others. I feel that it is an insurmountable hurdle. Is a Rolex more accurate than a Seiko? No, but it can cost 100x more and people still buy them.
Is a Corvette an impressive performer? Absolutely! Will it beat my F430 around a track or at a stoplight? Probably. Do I want a Corvette? Nope. I've owned lots of them and they no longer stir any emotions in me.

There are many of us in the car enthusiast world who just don't care at all for the European "exotic" stuff for a multitude of reasons. Anyone who buys a $300,000 with the intention of making some type of statement to the world likely has some significant insecurity issues regardless of the width of his wallet. Your true position in life is a derivative of your character and NOT what is parked in your garage. Anyone who would seriously question this has very little conception of what life is really about.

Now you are bringing ontology into the discussion and that is fraught with peril on a Corvette Forum.
Uhhh, I think it is something for a Service Dept. to look into.
No way should it ever happen.
Sorry, but that is complete B.S.

This has been my car ownership trajectory in the past 15 years:
2001 C5 Z06 -> 2010 M-B C63 -> 2009 E92 M3 -> 2010 458 Italia
I sold the 458 a little over a year ago and I am currently without a "toy" vehicle (kids and house took priority). My next toy will be a C8 corvette as it blends most of my favoriate elements of all the above cars. Some context: In terms of income I suppose I would be considered "rich" but i'm definitely not wealthy in that I can afford to drive $300k cars, but not collect them. I own toys because I use them and sell them If I'm not using them or need to put money into other things (e.g buying a bigger house). As far as a toy is concerned, the C8 represents phenomenal value and I wouldn't be afraid to drive the thing and rack up miles and I wouldn't worry about depreciation or re-sale value (as one does when not a collector of Ferrari's).
FWIW the E92 M3 is, for me, the perfect daily-driver all-season car. high-revving V8 power, drives like a go-cart, 6-spd manual, no problems with winter tires on, back seat and a trunk.

good looking- yes. as a boulevard cruiser. As a track car my c7 GS is much better. the braking system on the Gallardo sucked, even on the superleggera model. After a couple hard braking corners the brake pedal would go to the floor. which is a scary feeling when driving off into a corner at 100+mph

Traded my C7Z to get into a 458. Amazing car! 458 is up for sale so I can get back into a Corvette C8.

Have been a Corvette guy for 33 years. If the 458 sells, it sells. If not, it won't hurt my feelings too much to drive the 458 for a while longer.

The problem is Corvette really has no straight up competition.
It is a unique car that no one, except GM, is currently making.
Do a side-by-side comparison with an ordinary 911...
They share almost nothing in common.
Performance matters more to benchracers than actual people writing a check for a new 911.

There is a reason for that...(hint: we're talking about street cars).
A google search will turn up numerous 911/Corvette comparisons, so some people believe they have something in common.

As so many post here the continuation of ferrari, lamborghini and even the much less expensive porsche (compared to ferrari) are a status statement and the corvette is not even on their radar...blah blah blah...
lets wait and see when the c8 releases...and of course as higher performance variants release as well...
we know nothing really of the c8 and already we are hearing that the owners of exotic cars wont be buying the new vehicle.
thats simply not true..lmany exotic car owners will buy the c8 to get seamless reliable relatively inexpensive extremely hih performance..l
not to replace their passionate italian exotic car but to go along side such an exotic..l
those who have exotics and keep them in their man cave without being used...they wont buy a c8.,.the ones who actually enjoy driving will most likely add a c8 to their stable..
i think a lot if the near exotic porsche owners will replace their leased 911 (which is usually the case) with the rear mid engine corvette..
the official release is in orange county california to send a wake up call to the overpaying lease toting 911 owners to possibly consider the c8 next time their lease is up....
mark my words (remember them) c8 conquest rates will be industry leading

When a person buys a Gallardo and then discovers that a valve job, in most cases, must be done every 10,000 - 20,000 miles, and the mechanic shows you the horrendous price estimate, that's when you know you own a supercar (overpriced and painfully expensive to maintain). I recently talked with a local man who told me about the valve maintenance. Although he could easily afford the outlandish costs, his Lamborghini spent so much time in the shop that he sold it and bought a C7 ZO6 convertible.
