Apparently GM is going to follow in Mopar's footsteps and lock their ECU's......

Im pretty sure my track hawk ECU wasn't tunable.... But it is now.. Im pretty sure HP Tuners just calls and hires the person who helped make the ECU..
I am sure it will be unlocked eventually.

I'm not a lawyer, but GM's ECU encryption code is proprietary and a former GM employee would not legally be able to share it with a future employee. From the article it appears that GM will allow some after market tuners to have access to their encryption.

Read a story somewhere last night that that's incorrect, it will be able to be tuned.. and from a reliable source, though I wasn't paying a lot of attention as it was late....
GM Authority? Maybe...... a search should find it easy enough.....

perhaps this will make the last of the front engine cars more desirable than otherwise. after all it is a very good platform and tunable. the c8 will be the latest and the greatest but that doesnt detract from how good the c7 (and other earlier versions) is.
lots of older folks buying cars they lusted after in highschool in the 60s, restored versions but still the same older platforms show that there are many old tricks in old dogs that make them worth while.

What happens when the other modules in the car refuse to function because they can't authenticate the ECM?
If Motec was as easy as you think, ZR1 owners would have gone that route rather than waiting for someone to build a modified factory ECU that retained all the inter-module communication.

Oh, and I should have written "easily" rather than "easy."
