GM goes from beautiful Monarch Beach resort in Dana Point to ho hum Tustin, There's gotta be a very god reason for this. GM better top off the new 2020 Porsche 911 reveal in LA. That's all...

Those hangers are BIG! But is it A or B?

Those hangers are 1072’ long so maybe they should do a 0-60 run inside, the tires smokin all the way. Even an 1/8 mile could be possible.

That blimp hangar would be really cool. The C7 was inspired by the F22 Raptor and the C8 is an evolution on that design theme (same team, wanted to make the C7 ME to start, etc.).

As for doing it over the beach etc.... hard to setup all the video screens and stages and conceal the car until the reveal. And while CA has amazing weather, an enclosed space takes that variable off the table.

Actually, just the opposite. It's very cold inside the hangar with the doors closed, even on hot days.

I'm not sure what sort of sound system they may be using, but it's also pretty quiet.

The bigger problem is that part of the roof of the north hangar collapsed in 2013. I'm not sure if the DoD fixed it.

Yes... this book details it and shows pictures from the design room.

This. There's a huge amount of space at the old air station with giant hangers for high speed demonstration and possibly autocross course set up. When they used to run AX there the length of the straights rival big tracks.

That's like if they announced the reveal at Fontana. You'd think, Fontana? Those that locals refer fondly as Fontucky?! Really?

But Auto Club Speedway is located in Fontana.

Don't knock Tustin. Sure, it's like the pits of Orange County, which is already the pits of Southern California (no offense to OC residents. I'm sure it's nice), but for a car launch and demo, you really can't beat it.

This is what the SRT Demon did at its reveal. They had a launch box, tree, and everything...they did a launch for the crowd. I had to admit, when I watched it....as a reveal I was pretty impressed. I am not sure I'd like to see the C8 debut as a drag car though....doing sprints from a dig...I'd rather see it pass through at 100mph

I can't argue with Tustin, but OC the pits of So Cal?!? Hahaha! You clearly haven't spent much time there. Ever heard of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach or Dana Point? Maybe take a gander at the home prices before you make comments about things you have zero clue about. And no, I'm not a resident and never have been, but I did grow up in So Cal.

I just emailed and asked if they are open for tours that day and they said they are open for a public or private tour that day so I don't think its there.

I knew some snowflake from behind the orange curtain was going to get all butt-hurt by that comment.

I spent a large percentage of my adult career working out of OC. I have plenty of friends who live there. We joke about it. In truth living anywhere in Southern California is truly BETTER than 99% of the RoW despite the flaws.

There's nothing wrong with OC. Just like I give sh*t to friends living in Sandy Eggo, Santa Barbara, and a variety of other California paradises. I kid only because I'm jealous.

And before you go mention home prices, I live in one of the ONLY Southern California neighborhoods where home prices went UP during the housing crisis in 2008. What I paid for, and what the house is worth now, can probably DWARF more than half of the house in some of the more ritzy beach areas in Orange County.

But you OC guys do have better beaches, I'll give you that.

It's been confirmed that those Hangar scenes filmed for the "Real People Not Actors" ads were indeed at the blimp base formerly know as MCAS Tustin. If they can use them once, they can use them again. I just hope that the Reveal doesn't Go Over Like A Lead Balloon......

Here ya go..

CHEVY - "UP" — ZACH MERCK - DIRECTOR

https://www.zachmerck.com/chevy-up

SO, IN REAL LIFE...

This stunt was all done practically by my amazing team - there are no special effects. Bojan Bazelli was on the lens - Kimo Proudfoot, Martin Schaer, and Luka Bazelli as operators. Evan Rohde and Gill Gayle designed the set. Per the agency concept, I needed to figure out how to pull four stories of cars out of the ground! Trying to build traditionally and demo was out of the question and too expensive. Cut to me having a revelation at the Coachella music festival staring at a band on the main stage, when I realized that the size, structure, and weight limitations of the stage was perfect for our concept. By Monday we were on the line with the vendor. Shot in the OC Blimp Hangar, we rebuilt the Coachella main stage inside the space! This live stunt involved multiple layers of stage and production, 10 cameras, an underground railroad track, lifts, grip, and rock and roll to pull off in real time, and we did it. We surprised five focus groups that day. Proud of this one - this is dead real, and Evan Rohde needs to win awards
