The normal rate for the use of the air hangar is $9,000 per day. There are no utilities there, so you have to bring in your own generators, water, lighting, etc.

It's a giant wooden truss building with a concrete floor. There's not too much improvement to be made, unless GM decided to fix the portion of the roof that collapsed in 2013.

I have been inside the hanger. You could get over 100 in to the hanger and have room left over. I might note if I am not wrong this is where they filmed the Chevy Truck TV add that aired a while back.

For those hoping for a sunset reveal, please note the doors open perfectly to view the sunset as seen in around the 1:38 mark in the YouTube video FrankLP posted:

Not much. There was a company called Worldwide Aeros Corp. was using it for their prototype of a cargo-carrying blimp, but in 2013 the part of the roof over the blimp (north end of hangar) collapsed damaging the prototype. I'm not sure if they've repaired the roof yet. I should take a drive by it to take a look.

Edit: After watching the above behind-the-scenes video, I can see that the roof has been fixed. I was last inside the hangar in 2011 and the above video was filmed since then.

No heating, no cooling, no lighting.

The building is so big that the sun's heat can't warm all the air inside when the doors are closed. Because of this, the ambient temperature inside with the doors closed is about 60 degrees, all year around, even in summer.

All the windows in the roof and doors provide plenty of light to see. It's like a cloudy day.

This makes the decision to have the reveal start at sunset even more interesting. If the skies are clear and colorful on the evening of the 18th, the view of the stage with the sunset in the background and the entire interior of the building illuminated with color will be incredible. I hope there are some talented and well-equipped photographers at the reveal.

I’ve driven in the hangars. As stated, they quite literally have their own climate and simply have to be experienced in person. This will be epic.

There are two hangars. The one with the damaged roof has still not been repaired. However, the second hangar is the one that has been used in recent commercials and the one that I believe will be used for the reveal.

It's called LTA (Lighter Than Air) in whats now called Irvine.. I grew up in Tustin as my father was a fighter pilot stationed at El Toro..from the late 50's-mid 60's I know that whole area like the back of my hand..Great place for a reveal!! Tustin..wow

True. The "North Hangar" and the "South Hangar".

I'm pretty sure that the roof collapse that damaged the blimp in 2013 happened in the North hangar. That blimp was there at the time of the last indoor model airplane meet I attended in 2011 and we flew in the North hangar. I'm only about ten minutes away from MCAS Tustin, so I'll take a drive by it in a day or so to check it out.

As an aside, the blimp that was there at the time was behind an enormous curtain and we were told that we could not take photos or video in that direction. They were 'only' using the northern-most 1/3 of the hangar floor.

It would be great to know if the hangar GM is going to use for the reveal is still in good condition after the recent earthquakes. I wish you the best as well.
