According to Car and Driver's lightning lap the GT500 was faster than the base Corvette of its time. The last GT500 came out during the C6 era and not the C7 era so that's the Corvette I'm referring to. https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...storical-data/

Been racing/tracking Corvettes 20 years.... the FE car is maxed out... I'm a huge Corvette fanboy, but at some point it's done. Also, driving a sports car is more than pure numbers. It's also the feel of the car while driving at the limit. A ME car puts more weight over the rear tires and allows better off-corner acceleration and better/faster turn-in/response. The trade off is it will be twitchier on high speed stead-state corners (where the C4/5/6/7 all shined). Also going ME frees up the packaging space for electric front drive assist.
Lastly, I've had 5 Corvettes... the thought of a mid-engine DCT with an American V8 has me more excited than anything since the C5 release. This car is going to be awesome.

Melting Slicks
The reason for the ME C8 has been made clear by Mary Barra many times: electrification. Initially it will be a PHEV and eventually a pure EV as batteries improve. Acceleration will be much faster and carbon emissions will be zero. Also, much cheaper to build and maintain.

Zero carbon emissions depending on the state you live in and how that state produces electricity.

"In honor of jpee"
Jim Mero is an icon in the Corvette world but as said above he's not a professional "spokesperson" and therefore is entitled IMO to re-do's.
That said, my take is all will be known and understood about the C8 ME AFTER July 18, not just ON July 18. As a matter of fact, really, besides stats on the car itself, the real test of "will it entice others to the Corvette" won't be known for at least 2 to 3 years later after sales begin.
That is the big gamble of betting the entire model on this new form of Corvette. And I do think this is a potential make or break move for Corvette. For those who want Corvette to survive, it's a hope that this is a positive move and game-changer.
Because Corvette is an iconic and desirable brand to many, but not all. And for those who want the performance for big bucks (not a Miata or equivalent), they will spend for a name as well as performance, or vice versa. And sometimes they'll pay more for name even if the performance does NOT match other names' performance.
That's just the way it is. Not everyone is a "car-person" interested only in performance. Some, or many who can afford to be, are status-seekers and want the name along with a high, but not necessarily highest, level of performance.

Its like whack-a-mole with you. Every time you pop up and say something stupid you get smacked down over and over again. Too bad you couldn't show where the LT2 will make 500hp, lol.

i agree. All true. But as I said above, it takes an expert driver to drive the ZR1 to the limit... even then it is not an easy drive as we have seen... a hem... GMs goal is to make it a little easier and safer to drive the C8 to its limit. The very reason many driver reviews prefer the GS is because it is not so scary to go fast! The ME c8 should give more confidence on the track.

If nothing else the mid engine should be faster down the 1/4 mile... I know that's not a big deal for everyone but we're definitely going to see some new standards being set for stock Corvette's

C8 will be faster than a C7 on a model for model basis. GM needs to do this and will.
Lots of people seemed concerned that the C8 won't be the fastest car built (say, compared to the new Mustang) even though they won't come close to the limit of their car (whether it's a C8, C7 or C6). If not having the "fastest" car available on paper is embarrassing to you or if the new Mustang is faster and, therefore, your bragging rights at the water cooler are somehow impaired, just buy the car with the best stats. It will make you feel good on your cruise to Walmart.
My experience is a ME car is better balanced and generally easier to push at the limit. Add the power of a Corvette, the wide sticky rubber and the engineers focused on speed and I'm pretty confident that the C8 will be an amazing car and faster than anything within $50,000 of its price. The C8 Z06/ZR1 will set benchmarks. All just my opinion.
GM is not going to flush the Corvette down the toilet by launching a failed ME C8. It just isn't going to happen... even if some people seem to hope it fails largely because they can't handle the Corvette changing from FE to ME. The C8 will be the best Corvette built from both an objective and driving experience perspective... that doesn't mean everyone will "prefer" it but it will be GM's best sports car ever built either way.

That's a "NO" on producing the GM document that states the LT2 is 500 HP.
Even though you've typed that about ONE THOUSAND times.
You should quit while you're behind.
This just hit me...
Jim, without a doubt, HAS seen the C8 undisguised.
Hey Jim (if you're still here),
Can you share some pictures of the C8 in the flesh? We would REALLY appreciate it.
Your pal,
Jimmy

Pleased with C7 GS buy
After reading this feel even better that I ended the wait for the C8 in January and bought a 2019 GS at an awesome level, thanks to Mark.
I have an order for s C8 but am going to have to be really wowed! Hopefully the *** end is nicer than the renderings!

I am curious about the 50 - 50 vs 30 - 70 weight distribution comment.

Would really love to see that run again with the ZR1 wearing today's latest rubber compound.
