What is this piece at the base of the A-pillar for - front top of door?
Initially I thought the side mirror was attached to it, but now we see the mirror is still attached to the door and this little piece is separate. Is it to make the door glass seal better for wind/rain?
EDIT - Thinking about it, it would allow for dimensionally shorter glass front-rear maybe for packaging constraints inside the door?
See the part circled in red... part in blue was from some other thread unrelated.

My 2012 GS, 2013 Boxster and 2016 Audi are all just like that. The only difference is on the Audi the rear view mirrors are attached. Not so on the Vette or Porsche.

My 2013 has a variation of that as well. Triangular but taller. I think it is to compensate for the wedged area, eliminating the need for glass. So, they "cut corners" per say because teh glass that long may not fit inside the door when rolled down. A squared-off corner makes things easier.

C7 and 5 didn’t have it. Never owned a C6.

Might be what the last generation Viper had. The piece swung out and was attached to the door.

Maybe Camo hiding this coming back.
But I doubt it. Great when open and window down to rest you arm and grab the bar. Had a ‘53 Ford in HS much like it.

Actually, that piece is to cover a structural support at the bottom of the angled windshield frame like with this C7 Chassis pic.
And I thought you Corvette Forum Enthusiast would have know that. Shame. :

True that, but not all the way into the lower corner of the C7 a-pillar if you disregard the triangle area. So it looks like the red door with tan open? I like the C7 solution better.

And the answer is it is BOTH! Look how wide that A Pillar is which could include and hide what we see as the lower corner support structure piece we see in the cad drawling. It is also evident that the triangle piece on the open door is just trim that is fixed to the door.
That A pillar sure is beefy when include what we see on the interior. One last comment, I promise, is why put that trim piece on the door?

Also, it will allow them to have a cleaner a-pillar given as it seems they'll be painted body color now. By making the triangle separate it can be black and not break up the a-pillar. The C7 a-pillars don't look right body color matched.
