The more things change, the more they remain the same...

I just looked at the pre-1/13/13 posts from the C7 General Discussion page. Here are a couple of thread titles I found there:

So Let Me Be Clear Our New Car Will Look Like a Camaro From The Rear AND..

and If YOU were responsible for the rear facia?

The banter about the C7 rear end was so heated that many threads were locked and/or deleted.

and that's why I will wait to see one in person, and even sit in one before I make my decision

100% agree. Even when we finally see it all during the reveal, I'll still reserve judgement until seeing it in person.

I wonder... IF that is the real rear, how much of the things people are complaining about (especially the exhaust location) are due to it having trunk space for two sets of golf clubs? Guess we find out in 10 days.

The C7 was jarringly new and different. The C8 is jarringly trashy and mimics lesser Chevys that have been out for years. If GM stylists were thinking, "We hope the old guys hate it," they succeeded. Unfortunately, the young ones here don't like it either. The cognitive dissonance between Chevy's customers and their styling department is at a historic level. That sound you hear is Porsche management breathing one enormous sigh of relief.

I really donít like the exhaust tips, the overall squareness, the spoiler and the taillights. But if we remove all flaws, itís perfect.

I sure hope the rear does not really look like the photo and that spoiler is hideous, IMO.

I am 30 yr old "young professional" with the possibility of being able to afford a new c8... I should in theory be one of the main group of people they are trying to get to buy this car...

My thoughts:
  • I was bummed as hell about the no manual rumor. If that turns out to be true that is going to suck and be a deal breaker for me personally. If the future z06 or GS get a manual then it's fine to me that the base not get manual since I want z06 or GS regardless.
  • The rear end is ugly as hell. I think the tail lights are actually cool, and I think it's better than the c7 rear... But why the hell do they keep making the bottom black plastic trim piece come so far up the back bumper. I think that is part of the problem with both this and the c7. I think the other problem with this rear end design is the top deck center looking like it's dragged downward; I think the rear would have looked better with a more flat top deck rear profile (a la Ferrari). I'm on my phone or I'd show a picture of what I mean. In general there's too much going on.... Plus the exhausts look kind of like a cheap aftermarket setup... Maybe would have been cooler to have center mount large exit like Lamborghini. Maybe the packaging wouldn't allow that but still I don't like this design. Maybe instead of 4 tips, do 2 wide ones... There are a lot of possibilities.
  • I thought c7 rear was ugly as hell when first came out, and it never grew on me at all. I still think it looks terrible. The widebody variants make it TOLERABLE because of the clear tail lights and wide rear quarter panels. Its not even the tail lights that bother me, it's how high the black plastic rides up the back + the horizontal cheap reflectors + the KISS-looking plastic tail light surround
  • Plus the leaked steering wheel looks bad too IMO

So yes, I'm dissapointed in the design so far. Just because something is DIFFERENT doesn't automatically mean it's GOOD... This misses the mark for me, as did the c7 rear and c7 steering wheel.

Seems to be a trend.

The C8 rear look's like designed by a two year old, has no distinction or advancement at all. I thought I could grow to like the C7 rear but won't happen, maybe a C6 is in the cards.

Who in GM thought it would be a good idea to Camaro'ize the Corvette? GM should have kept certain aspects of the Corvette as unbreakable. With the C7 departure, I guess they thought anything was ok.....The tail lights and spoiler are terrible, just terrible.

I saw a C7 that the owner had gotten that large black part painted body color and it looked 100 times better. The car was Black Rose, so maybe the fact the car color was darker helped (meaning, a large white *** might not have looked as good, I'm not sure), but I had decided if I bought (or buy) a C7, that will be exactly the thing I would do. Would like happen with a C8 as well.

The 4 tips do look odd, I think a single tip that takes up the whole space would look better.

It's not the best looking rear end and certainly not the worst. I like it more than the C7.

I'm pretty sure I will end up liking the car, but my biggest sticking point in buying one is that new Corvettes always depreciate like crazy. We'll see what happens, I have a decent size list of cars I'm considering buying in the next 2-3 years. Might be a C8, might not.

Yeah... Idk.. something about the black plastic trim piece riding up so high makes it look awkward. If it was lower on the panel like c6 (where it's only the bottom ~5" of the panel) then it'd look a LOT better.

I am buying the car regardless BUT it is so disappointing that GM decided to mirror rear end styling cues from the Cruz, the Camaro, and even the new Blazer

why would they they think that the Corvette should share ďfamily styled ď rears is beyond me.

And yes, I am glad that I am not the only one who hates the steering wheel design.

I feel the the steering wheel design belongs in a caddy not a sports car.

But it despite these styling issues for me , I will still buy the car regardless. But not as enthusiastically....

Default It's design chaos. And huge.

No surprise though. I suppose many will get used to it. But that's not the same as making a bold, clean, original, design statement. Whether you love or hate it, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND the chaotic design language in the C8. Who decided that was the way to go, and who approved it?

I agree...

I think the back is better than the c7 rear, but still kind of disappointing

The more I look at it, the more I'm wondering, why is the license plate area so damn big and so high that it's literally right in the middle of the top half? Usually the license plate sits on the lower half of the rear, below the taillights.

I think that's why at first glance, it just seems so busy and all over the place but you can't really pin point why. Then, you see that everything connects back to that plate area.

I'm still going to hold off on judgement until I see the full reveal. Hoping that a better angle and seeing the entire car will put it all together.
