Highly doubt it has anything to do with being innovative. Its a corvette so the obvious assumption should be cost.

+1. Cost is always the buzz killer! The Corvette is based on Bang for the Buck with a dose of performance. Hence, no active aero, rear axle steer, powered targa tops or front axle lift. All of these items add to cost.

Doesn't a miata have a retractable hard top why not the c8

Sorry, the C8 DOES have front axle lift.

And the C8 is going to be a hardtop convertible....but the coupe will have a removable (but not powered) targa top.

Then one could also say, a corvette has X amount of HP/torque, why not a miata. This isn't rocket science. For a car to be budget friendly something, has to give. Thats part of the reason exotic cars are so dam expensive, they compromise on almost nothing except for maybe storage space.
