What they are saying on Rennlist about the C8
This is not a Porsche bashing thread, so please don't turn it into one. I have a lot of respect for Porsche cars. They was well engineered, and excellent performers. Many people on here own both Porsche and Corvette. I thought it would be fun to see what the Porsche enthusiasts are saying about the C8. It turned out to be very entertaining.
When the full interior picture leaked, it seems like there was the typical Chevy bashing.
"I think I'm going to vomit..."
"I don't think its that bad. The steering wheel is absolutely horrid. That's also a **** load of buttons stacked up there next to the passenger seat."
"How can something so wide look so impossibly cramped left to right but so ungodly huge front to back? (referring just to the interior)"
"Oh my... What's that thing in the middle? Storage for dead bodies? I thought the engine is in the back so no need for a transmission/axle tunnel in the cabin anymore? My Boxster that's half the size has twice the cabin room."
Then the exterior shots of the C8 are leaked, and posted on Rennlist.
"If it looks like this im withdrawing my deposit and going with the C8 Vette. MURICA!!"
Then today after the C8 reveal.
"And it's under 60k (also those leaks are real)"
"And a NA V8 engine producing 495 HP which GM claims can do 0 - 60 in under 3 seconds. The C8's HP and 0 - 60 time are about the same as a GT3, and of course much faster than a GT4 which stickers for more than $40K over a C8. Don't know if I'll be buying one, but I sure as hell will be checking it out. "
"I never ever thought that I would be typing these next words, but after the C8 reveal: Im considering a Corvette over a GT4. What? Am I crazy??"
"Am I questioning my 718 Spyder order? At least somewhat."
"If the Corvette is actually the bees knees I can trade out the GT4 in a few years with less loss and pick up a Vette probably for a discount and after all the year 1 and year 2 kinks are worked out."
"Still undecided on the look/design (too angular and “can’t put my finger on it” weird) but very impressive numbers, tech, equipment, options, and most of all, pricing. What GM has done looks almost magical."
"The only thing stopping me from going into a Chevy dealership to at least have a look is that there no manual option."
"So I won't make up my mind until I drive the C8, but I certainly won't be rushing off to a Porsche dealer to buy a GT4 with a $10K ADM."
"Has Chevy just disrupted the sports car industry? I don’t think anyone at Acura slept well last night . I wouldn’t want to be an Acura NSX salesmen"
"Or a supra salesman, or any performance car over $100k salesman. The supra being priced right around the same as this is just a no-brainer.... the Supra is nothing special this time around, costs the same, and has significantly less performance than a Corvette. I don't see anything else going for it"
"Holy cow. I don't care for the interior but everything else boggles the mind. Wow. I'll have one in a few years."
"I was able to play with Chebbies visualizer in the wee hours this morning. It looks much better with body-colored exterior bits rather than the black-contrasted bits. Yeah. If its too good to be true..."
"not fair to compare c8 to gt4 based on price. gt4 is twice the price. compare c8 to base cayman and Porsche might as well stop production today. "
"Chevy is setting up a GAU-8 at an on-going knife fight. Oh, and I suspect Chevy has another unopened can of whoop-a$$: I’m gonna predict electric motors for the front in a couple of years for a 4wd hybrid."
"After seeing the C8 convertible I'm pretty convinced my garage needs to have a manual 911 coupe and a C8 convertible."
"I have a pang of regret for buying my 718 CGTS when I look at that picture. Wow what a beautiful machine!"
"I've said it before and I'll say it again: The first couple of years of production are probably going to have some significant issues. Like, really significant. But after seeing the finished product I'm going to give Chevy a really long leash before I hold it against them."
"can issue be any bigger than 991.1 gt3 engine fire? wait year to get car then be told you cant drive for another 6 months while they swap engine. that was insane."
"Well that new C8 looks pretty convincing inside and out.... and starting at $60k.... will be worth a look...."
"718 GT4 Deposit has been withdrawn. Can't wait to get my hands on this car (C8)."
Let's welcome some of these Porsche owners into the Corvette family!

I own a 2015 GT3 and frequent RL. I never really cared for the styling of the Corvette but I must say I am interested in this one. Still have to read the reviews and see it in the flesh, but so far I like what I see and applaud GM for putting out a product that will certainly disrupt this segment of the car industry. At the end of the day I am a car guy first and not a Porsche homer. Cool cars are cool cars.

I’m on another Porsche forum too, and I can tell you YES the C8 disturbed the industry. For me, the C8 is not perfect but still it is priced like a Cayman and performs like a 911 turbo.
This should get Porsche to rethink:
1) continuously castrating the 981/718 for the sake of the 911
2) continuously pumping the price of the 911
I can’t wait for the journalists to take the C8 head to head with all the other super cars.
The way way I see it:
1) the GT-R marketing team will be very disturbed as they kept going north with their prices with no returning back.
2) the new NSX was stillborn, so never mind
3) the new Supra is not in this category to compete
4) Porsche and McLaren definitely didn’t see this coming. Their 718, 911, 570S/GT will definitely take a hit
5) Lamborghini is completely a different beast. I don’t see them losing business to the C8.
6) Ferrari... sorry, but it’s just a badge for me.

Personally I am a big fan of Porsche and Corvette. I will be keeping my manual 991.2 GT3 but skipping the 992 for the high performance Corvette. What a great time to be an enthusiast.

People buy those cars for the exclusivity and to telegraph their wealth to the rest of the world. You will see C8s all over and the price is too low to be able to say "Hey world! I paid enough money for this car to feed 2,000 starving children for over a year!"

I'm sure that many NSX, GTR, and Supra buyers will join the Corvette family. Perhaps some 718 buyers will move from Porsche to Corvette, but I think that if someone belives that people are going to cross shop Mclaren, Ferrari, etc. and Corvette, they are deluded.

I’m in a circle of friends who own, collect, race and enjoy different makes. Personally my taste may be too limited in comparison to my other friends. But ‘we’ do exist.

Interesting. I’ve never understood the need to convert Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren owners to Corvette. Perhaps it’s to confirm to some Corvette owners that they were right all along. I say let people own what they want, and let’s not try to convert them. Ditto for religion, sexual orientation, political views, etc. Just let people be.

Im more impressed than I thought I was going to be. And even more, more impressed, after watching Shmee150s video on it. I will be waiting for the Z06 variant, because, if GM plays their cards right, its going to be hard to beat. Lets hope they didn't make the car, itself, too wide to pull the fenders out a few inches, and slap some wider meat on this thing. Give me a 4.8 liter TT, with 700, and some mesh wheels, similar to the C7 Z06, and Im in. 3LT, loaded, Z08 package.
This thing is definitely stealing some thunder from The 718. Id be interested to see a number, on how many people cancelled their orders, and how fast that ADM gets adjusted.

I’ve been a Corvette owner and also a Porsche owner. My GT4 is going up for sale next week. Talked to the owner of the GM store where I live (we are good friends) and my C8 will be one of their first to come. It was everything I hoped it would be.
C8 now... either a C8 Z06 or a GT3 next. If the C8 driving experience is what I hope, it will be the Z06 next.

I currently have a 718 Boxster GTS, which I track 3-4 times a month. Love the car, but I was looking for a dedicated track car, and I wanted mid engine. I was waiting for the GT4, but not impressed with its specs compared to the Boxster. Yesterday I put a deposit on the C8. Looks great on paper. We will see.

Competition is a good thing. If the finished product delivers, it will force many companies to change their value proposition. The amount of tech in the C8 is incredible. If it all works as promises...I am on the McLarenlife forum, very similar responses to Rennlist. Lots of bashing on the interior and rear end, but way more hats off and interest. I have a deposit down and look forward to having it share the garage with my 570 Spyder.

Great thread.
Completion brings out the best in organizations and it appears the Vette team has punched the “affordable” Porsches right in the mouth.
How will they react? Will the GS/Z06 variants actually poach more 911 sales?.
Nothing but good for sports car lovers...

Have a C5Z and that seems like a dinosaur compared to what was unveiled. Lucky enough to get into a '13 Panamera GTS and the fit and finish of Porsche is just...the best interior I've ever been in hands down. I can see why Porsche owners, along with other exotic owners, always thought the Corvette interior was a joke if we're being honest.
But now? 2LT or 3LT interior is looking incredibly promising with high hopes, actually in the same league as what's offered by the top dogs. The performance of previous Z06/ZR1 is always ridiculous for the price, however the interior still had shortcomings.
This time it might actually be different, and it's awesome to see others have such positive things to say after the reveal.

The 1960’s muscle car era can’t be discussed in the same paragraph as what we are experiencing in the sports car world these days. Who knew that when Nixon established the EPA, it would lead to this.
