Toyota Supra ordered-now having second thoughts after seeing the C8
I ordered a 2020 Toyota Supra Launch edition in Jan. It’s suppose to arrive July 22-24 next week. I’m really having second thoughts after seeing C8 and it’s price tag. I honestly expected the C8 to start at $85k plus being a rear engine. This Supra is $58,515 and I’m buying at MSRP but my wheels are seriously turning.

Toyota needs to learn that rebadged Z4 is not a Supra.
I honestly expected the new Supra to compete against its rivals like NSX and GT-R.
I'm sure it's a fun little car, but it's not a Supra.
I'm sure if GM based the new Corvette on BMW Z4, people will be against it too.
Also the C8 is NOT rear engine. It has mid engine layout like many Ferraris and Lamborghinis, or Acura NSX, etc..
Rear engine is something like Porsche 911, VW Beetle, Mitsubishi i-Miev, DMC DeLorean, Subaru 360, Chevy Corvair, etc.

Doesn’t the Supra start at high 40’s? So the $57K Supra would be the equivalent to a 2LT or 3LT Vette?
I would figure out what trim and features you want and you can probably estimate. 2LT is probably $8-9K option. 3LT will be $12kish? Performance exhaust will be another $1200 or so and destination will be another grand or so.
Some interior and exterior paint will be options.
Figure a Z51 with 2LT and destination with no other major upgrades will probably be $74Kish. That’s probably a close comparison, features wise, to a loaded Supra. If you do any paint or exterior/interior upgrades plan on another $2Kish for the Vette or just under $80K
Personally the C8 seems like a whole other level. If you do t care about all the amenities of the 2LT panckage a 1LT with Z51 (a must have to me) should be $65-66K.
Also realize at this point you may not get a C8 until well into 2020. Could easily be 9+ months or longer.

Tough one.
Cancel the Supra - buy some time. You can always re-order it if you change your mind, maybe even at a discount.

Hard to give advice. As someone upthread said, the risk here is that this Supra becomes some flash/crash in the pan - you buy it for MSRP, demand for it collapses in the first year after the initial pre-order bubble is filled, and then you are stuck trying to unload it after taking a major depreciation hit just after a year+ of owning it.

In a few weeks you will know what it costs to get into a similar optioned Vette. Everyone is quoting $60K but that’s a bare bones LT1 with no Z51 package, paint updates, wheel update, exhaust update, interior update.
My advice would be to be to figure exactly what C8 Corvette package you want and then you can probably guesstimate the price difference. My advice if you like amenities and safety features don’t get the LT1 because you will regret it. Personally I think the LT2 and Z51 package is the sweet spot. $74Kish so get you in a C8 with those options before taxes and fees.
