Default No cylinder deactivation/eco mode on C8?

Didn’t hear them mentioned it at the press conference and heard there were only four drive modes getting carried over from the previous generation. So has anyone heard if this engine will no longer have cylinder deactivation and eco-mode?

From the dash pictures I have seen of the C8 dash there is a V8 light just like in the C7 indicating V8 more or V4 mode. Why would they waste space on dash screen to tell you V8 if there isn't going to be a V4 mode?

Eco mode appears to be gone, but the engine still has AFM. Like the automatic C7s of today, it means it'll likely be active to an extent in each of the modes until you get to Track (and maybe Sport?)

I liked AFM in my C7 though I'm hoping this is gear restricted. Gears 7 and 8 can AFM all day, what I don't want is for it to happen in 4th.

If you had an A8 with the tranny rumble like I have had on both my C7's, you would be buying a Range, assuming they can figure out how to bypass the AFM. My 15'Z51 has had it worked on twice including a new T/C the first time. Second time was another tranny flush, 3 times with new special Mobile 1 fluid. While dual clutch tranny likely won't have that issue, remember that Ford has a class action suit against it for their dual clutch transmission in their Escorts.

AFM exists. In one of the interview videos done by one of the media outlets, I think it was Motortrend, they mentioned testing the car for smooth V4 transitions so that it felt seamless to the driver/passenger. Eco mode may be gone but just like the C7 A8 the car will no doubt transition whenever it see's the engine isn't under load.

AFM is still alive and kicking.

This is the worst car feature ever built for any performance vehicle.

Lambo also has cylinder deactivation on all of their models.

My wife’s BWM X5 V8 has it and it sucks simply put. If I have a high performance vehicle it would never see that switch activated what is the point. If you can afford a C8 or more expensive you aren’t worrying about gas mileage

True.

But unfortunately, the manufacturers are held hostage by external forces beyond the customer base, including in this example, government regulations.

It's not about you and what you can afford especially if Lambo and other brands also have similar tech. Pretty easy to figure that out.

I am betting on DI and PFI systems.... DI for part throttle cruise and then the PFI adding more fuel when max performance is required.

Tadge mentions v4 in a video that he was being interviewed on. I have searched my history, but can't find it. He was in the camo caro during the filming and specifically mentioned v4 when talking about sound isolation in the car.

Default V4 is entertaining

I also enjoy watching the V4, especially going uphill at 80 MPH. Not everyone goes to the drag strip every day. I like taking long trips. In fact, I've done Museum Delivery 5 times, around 3,300 miles each time, different routes. That V4/V8 is entertaining, and I get more than 30 MPG on trips!

The Order Guide clearly states that AFM is a feature of the LT2.

The OP may have, like me, a C7 manual car. With manuals there is a separate “Eco” mode and the AFM is only invoked when in that mode. With the C7 automatics there is no separate Eco mode.
