Default C8 exhaust design

I cant seem to find an example image of the C8 and how the exhaust routes. Does a mid engine car need to equalize pressure with an X pipe? What design difference is there in the optional performance exhaust? My guess it that the performance exhaust upgrade will pretty much be on most C8’s. “If you can’t be good, be fast!”

The catalytic converters are connected directly to the headers, then through a flexible pipe into the muffler. The exhaust outlets exit out the sides of the muffler and turn 90 deg out the rear. The outboard outlets seem to have the valves.

I’ve been searching for pictures of the catalytic converters and rear OEM muffler. Can anyone send pictures of remainder of the c8 exhaust system. Saw the engine and headers just want to see exhaust and air box intake system.

A cross plane crank engine needs an x-pipe. A flat plane crank does not.

As seen in the engine pictures, the exhaust is routed up and then over something (structural member or axle) and then back down into the muffler.

This is going to be one critical area where those heat preventing ceramic coatings will be greatly appreciated.

The exhaust headers already have heat shields.

The C8 has a single muffler. The exhaust from the left bank flows to the right outlet, and vice versa. There is some mingling of exhaust gases from each bank.

Slightly off topic but still regarding the exhaust. I understand why people think a quad tip setup can't be done, and after seeing pics, the only thing stopping someone is the actual bumper/diffusor.

Circled is the muffler which is quite large and very similar to the Porsche GT2/3.

As seen below, yet Porsche opted for dual center tips. So I'm curious why Chevy didn't?

Lastly here's an after market unit which frees up some space and certainly looks doable for the C8... With the addition of a redesigned diffuser for quad exhaust.

If I'm being honest and were a betting man, I'd put money on a company making a carbon diffuser with a central exit layout. Hell the C7 Vette had aftermarket carbon diffuser with fins, and vents etc, so why would this be any different?

Mclaren OEM 720s catalytic converter. One bank off the 4.0liter twin turbo engine. 2 cats on each bank. Thermal foil encapsulated insulation flex bellow enclosed.
Thanks for the photos.
Exhaust design and engineering is my specialty and what we do at Fabspeed motorsport USA. On the C8 there is a left and right side OEM catalytic converter sandwiched between the frame rails to the engine block.

‘Multiple flexible bellows are visible to allow for movement and absorb vibration . There is metallic thermal insulation.

A set of 200cpsi German trimetallic catalytic converters sized as large as what will fit on the chassis should improve everything. More power, more Sportscar sound , better throttle response and no check engine lights no tune required to turn off cell lights. I have catalytic converters that will support

Virtually all of the recent late model sports cars all run significantly better with a catalytic converter than no catalytic converter.
‘I’m talking all mclarens, lamborghinis, Ferrari’s and recent Gt2rs and the mighty mercedes amg cars like the G wagen G63.
‘All these cars actually lost power versus using a big 200 cell euro 6 certified catalytic converter that flows the equivalent of 92% of a straight pipe.

On cars like this ceramic coatings won’t keep radiant heat contained enough. 2200 degree 321 stainless steel thermal
blankets and or 321ss or inconel heat shields encapsulating the catalytic converters and pipes reduces sound and Nvih.

That boxy large rear c8 muffler can be simplified to a valvetronic x pipe with different quad tips.
‘These are exciting fun times!

A dual exhaust doesn't "need" a cross pipe or an X-pipe. There are plenty of cars that seem to run fine without them, like the Shelby Cobra. Noise reduction seems to be the main benefit with maybe a slight power increase if it's done right.

The muffler takes care of the cross-over function that the X-pipe used to. The car sound awesome and has mid-length headers with merge collectors right from the factory!

Can't we just have zoomies out the top? This may need to be track only as it would not likely be EPA compliant.

Maybe someone will make a bundle of snakes header and exhaust system and eliminate the trunk. It would have a unique sound.

Or maybe eliminate the muffler and use quad SuperTraps with a new diffuser. Or maybe they could develp a bespoke system with rectangular plates to fit in the OEM rear end.

Do not limit your thinking.

Here's a CAD drawing showing more of the muffler.

FWIW that's the LT7 twin turbo DOHC so it may have a more hardcore muffler setup.

lol that was my first thought.
remove the entire stock system, modify the hatch with a couple outlets out the top, see Porsche 918

Looks like the exhaust manifolds are liquid/water cooled similar to a marine engine but the liquid/water is contained and not your typical single walled headers that get cherry hot

No... they are not water cooled, nor are they double-wall.
