I do, and others as well. In every car i have owned the mechanical aspect of the car is just as intriguing as the external looks of the car. When i would go to car meets you know what you see, hoods and hatches open because people like to see the guts of these cars. For those of us who are into it not being able to actually view the engine is something that weighs on our choices. If it wasn't important to some people there would be no engine dress up kits, or regular discussions about valve cover colors.
Um no, there aren't 'plenty'. There might be maybe on good day if the suns at a perfect angle with Jupiter and Plutos casting a shadow on the moon maybe 1 out of 200. Maybe...on a good day.
Even on the coupe, about the only things you can do from the top are check and add oil, and add coolant. Everything else: sparkplugs, belts, alternator, coil packs, etc. are done from underneath.
I wonder if heat tolerant glass could have been use. Similar glass to the glass used on oven doors. This way the engine would be visible. Maybe the after market will come up with something.

I said this very thing to the rep at KSC and mentioned that someone makes one for the Cayman and he chuckled and said... Yeah I'm sure someone will come up with something...
Still pretty silly because all you would be able to do is put the tonneau in the service position like opening your hood at a car show... so people can see the plastic engine cover under your clear engine compartment window....
I’ve see the engine compartment of every generation Corvette. This , in my opinion, is the ugliest Corvette engine compartment ever built. You would think, with all their designers , they could of done a better job. It’s not going to stop someone from buying a Convertible but you have to admit the engine compartment is a huge fail.

What I'm more curious about is the long term life of those seat pieces that pop out, that will be folded inward when the top is up. Are they actually leather, and the same type, and if so, how will the hold up to heat cycling. hopefully its a non-issue, but something i've noticed
Two pic grabs of the Vert engine cover. After removing what appears to be hold downs along each side, does it pivot and swings up towards the rear or lift completely out?
Or as noted by EasyLivin in another thread operated by by button on the FOB.

A literal search for "corvette car show pictures".
Yeah apparently the number of people who care multiplies when its a nice day with no rain and goes to a gathering of Corvette owners.
Jesus, I am not saying that you can't buy a vert. I just won't because among the reasons I choose not to, being able to view the engine actually has influence. You could also take a stroll down the threads here and find numerous posts asking about things that pertain to being able to see the engine.
You can go to any car meet where Corvettes show up and I guarantee that most, if not all of the Vettes will be opened up to show off each owners' cosmetic upgrades including those god awful embroidered or airbrushed hood panels. If you don't care that is your thing, don't try to impose your opinion as the fact.
Ultimately, until we see more images or videos that clearly show how that ugly heat shield is moved to access the engine, it is anyone's guess as to how much is accessible for maintenance.
I’ve owned 16 Corvette’s sense 1982 , 2/3 of them new and half of those verts. I absolutely love the C8’s coupes and verts but I can’t get over the hot dog grilling heat shield on the verts engine!!!! I don’t remember a time when autocrossing , tracking or just showing my corvettes that someone didn’t want to see under the hood . I can’t believe the engine is hidden in the vert!!!! That’s why I’m getting a coupe and when I get to old to take the roof off I will then buy a vert with heat shield 🛡 hiding the engine. I will always have a newer corvette god willing.
That top is going to get dirty in there. Have you ever seen a motor bay. After a few years.
Two of my last three cars had full underbody aero panels like the Corvette has. The engines never got dirty enough to need cleaning - even the one that was more than 6 years old when I sold it - which really surprised me. (People at car shows often commented on how clean the engine compartment was.)

They did this because there was no way to see the engine with the top Up or Down but somebody will come up with a clear engine cover like they did with the Porsche Cayman! That’s all your gonna need and it should be really easy to do. But I don’t know that would work well by not having any heat shielding for the top when it’s down so that my not work. Does the top headliner have alcantara on it on the 3LT trim? That would melt if there was no heat shielding in the engine compartment but I guess they could use a glass that shields heat and that would work.
Also those vent grills on the convertible would be awesome in carbon fiber too! Some company will make that too. Also with the side door blades in real carbon would looks nice too!
There are going to be so many ways to customize the C8 in the aftermarket.
