Wonder why the lighter grades of Signature are Dexos2 approved but not the 0W-40?
Did Amsoil really go through the official testing and get approved? From what I have previously seen, they simply "certify" they meet the requirements. I don't know and have not been curious enough to do my own research. I have never used Amsoil but would have no problem doing so, as from UOA results I have seen it appears to be a decent oil. I did recently change my rear diff lube and went with Amsoil with friction modifier added. Wanted to see if it would quiet down some coasting gear whine better than the GM lube. It didn't change anything; I figured it was a pretty cheap expense to give it a try.

Good catch, I just went to the gmdexos site and there isn't one Amsoil listed. They show approvals for dexos1 gen2 and then there is dexos2, completely different list. The oils approved for the Corvette are dexos2.
Hey Guys! Hope your doing good staying safe this holidays. I thought i would share some news on my c8 as i drive it everyday and now hitting 14k miles today after owning for 4 months! The first oil change the car burned 1/2 to 1 quart of oil. and now on the second oil change at 14,000 miles is now showing it burned another qtr., however i cant find any leaks or smells or bad sounds from engine or even a miss or error code in computer, but i notice i have had to clean the exhaust tips ever week as they are turning black from driving car hard at times 1-4 hours a day or maybe from closed baffles while driving hard makes it blow rich? I'm worried something is wrong with car, not sure how to go about the issue, ill be going for 15k mile PM in a week to service oil change clutch canister and check engine filter. Not sure if its just a small problem or reading the dip stick incorrectly, as I have checked after and during the entire process owning the car every 500 miles, and it shows oil level middle of cross hatch marks up until 25% oil life then the reading is just off and wrong, i tried checking it 165F like it said level at idle. Still reading wrong. or maybe burning oil? If you could point me in the correct direction or forum would be great thanks! Be Safe Take Care!
uuuuuuuhhhhhggg. It is literally on the oil cap, look through the glass on the back of your car to answer your own question (pop the hatch if you have the htc...)

Amsoil is NOT listed on GM's Dexos2 approved oil list. In any viscosity range.
That doesn't mean the oil doesn't meet GM's specs, it means Amsoil didn't pay the licensing fees to GM. But there's certainly no proof or even evidence any Amsoil oils satisfy the Dexos requirements.

Black residue on the exhaust tips is common with Direct Injection engines from all brands. Not something to worry about.
Burning 1/2 a quart in 7,000 miles isn't really that unusual, either. Some cars are much worse. But it seems odd it would change suddenly, rather than declining gradually.
Regarding the DCT cannister, did you replace it a 7500 miles like GM recommends? If so, it isn't due to be changed again until 22.500 miles.
Nothing comes close to AMSOIL Signature series 0-40 syn zero wear in motors taken apart ,that amsoil was used *****Had 24 corvettes, no engine failure with it!!

uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhgggggg. It was a reasonable question nearly a year ago when he asked it. How many Corvettes were out there to just check under the hood in Feb. 2020?
So - there are three Mobil 1 0W40 oils that are dexos 2 approved. What is the difference between the three, and among those three, would one be preferred? I went to the Mobil site, and entered my vehicle info, and it recommends the "ESP Formula" and "ESP x3". The other one just ESP does not come up. I read the descriptions of the oils, and nothing jumps out that would give me reason to prefer one over the other.

I installed a catch can and its doing its job, definately some oil being injested back into the intake without it.
40 year old oil that meets SF standard, when the current is SN?
This oil was discontinued because of reports of clogged oil filters.
No no no. What you have to do is get a oil filter from JC Whitney that you pack toilet paper in. It won’t clog. And for added economy you can drain the oil thru a cheese cloth and then reuse it. Good as new!
