Historically, discounts are 0 the first model year of the generation. The 2020 model year has not only seen unprecedented demand but is also a shorter model year as new models normally begin arriving at dealers in September of the prior calendar year. This time around, they began arriving in March of the current model year. So the 2020 model year has been condensed down to 6 months instead of 12 months. There are many factors that are taken into consideration before discounts begin. Obviously, supply catching up with demand is #1 and this can be adversely affected by the economy. If the coronavirus continues to expand without a vaccine, all businesses will suffer a decline especially airlines, leisure and travel businesses including hotels, restaurants, theme parks, casinos, as well as stores, and any other places where crowds gather and cause a snowball effect on our current robust economy and this will accelerate discounts. Hopefully, this will be brought under control sooner than later. The election can also have it's own effect as well as other unknowns.

Bottom line, once the large volume dealers see a drop in the frenetic pace that the C8 is selling, they will begin offering discounts to keep their volume up and that will cause the snow ball effect of discounts across most dealers. One resource I like to use is the wayback machine... https://archive.org/web/
Here, you can type in the website address of your favorite volume car dealers (or any other website for that matter) and look back at almost any month in any year and see their website as it appeared at that time. Using Kerbeck.com for example, you can see the pricing of the first model year of the C7... the 2014 C7 vs the 2015, 2016, etc and watch how the discounts have grown as the generation aged over the years.

UPDATE ON MARCH 6, 2020:
Good news to all who persevere and never give up, and never listen to poor and bad advice.
I did find a discount from MSRP from a Chevy dealer on a brand new 2021 C8, and no additional fees at all. The car will also be shipped directly from Bowling Green to my nearby Chevy dealer, so I do not have to pay for extra transportation. Of course, I will pay my local Chevy dealer a nominal fee for prepping my new C8. Still, this will be a huge saving than paying for new transportation from my dealer to me. Remember to request this from your out of state dealer when you plan to order your new C8, it will save you a lot.
So to all negative writings here and for the many who attacked me mercilessly......we are lucky to live in a country with a free market .....so anything is possible.
I will not say how much I saved and the dealer's name......you gotta earn this yourself.
Have a nice day all, and remember this.....it does not hurt at all to always be kind. Many of you here were very unkind and mean. Please change your attitude and behaviour, everyone will appreciate it.

LMAO $500 off msrp, but you have to pay another dealer that at minimum for courtesy delivery. BS like I said, your dealer ends up saving all the time on delivery, prep and reg/titling paperwork. Plus the hassle factor to find courtesy delivery

Default time will tell

Before any discount you may well see a MSRP increase offset. Discount might apply to any un-sold 2020 at the intro 2021 model, if, and only if, any are left over. I do not anticipate the 2021 intro w/o an increase. Not logical. Not for this poor man's 2021 Lambo.

OP is happy. He is going to wait maybe a year to get the car, and pay a curtesy delivery fee as most likely a price increase over a 2020. But he got that discount!

There's nothing new about that. What you DO get, is time to decide on more and better options/choices, manufacturing tweaking, and, letting the masses be the guinea pigs for any rogue defects problems that may occur. Especially if widespread. That's the incentive to get a better car for the same money.

OP~
Why should dealerships leave money on the table?

So you can resell it for a profit?

If you wanna make a profit selling used cars for more than new, then you gotta do it wIth FORD GT's...

More power to em. But no discount. We all have a choice in the matter. Those coming late are not going to get a 2020. Everything has a price to pay, but first you have to want one.

I'm not sure if I understand the psychology where people absolutely must have a discount in order to purchase something like a C8. It goes along with the adage, "Friends don't let friends pay retail". I paid MSRP for my C7-I would expect to do the same with the C8. I have no problem paying for quality.

You must realize that the demand is so high for these cars that they don't HAVE to discount them. Plus, if you're not willing to pay MSRP, the next guy is.....

When the supply catches up to the demand there will be big discounts. If you paid MSRP for your C7 you paid too much !!!!!!

If I read jcapps response correctly, you negotiated $500 off MSRP? I was able to do the same on a 2020 C8 order back in SEP 2019, however that was with a dealer I had purchased a new C7 from back in 2014, and I was told the $500 discount was a loyalty discount for returning customers. I wonder if you purchased from the same dealer I did. PM sent...
